It's "Switzerland" Not "Saudiland"
The audacity of Muslims continues in demanding that Western society change to accommodate them.
Muslims in Switzerland are now demanding that the Swiss change their flag...because...it's a little too Christian for them! Soeren Kern blogs at Hudson New York:
Ivica Petrusic, the vice president of Second@s Plus, a lobbying group that represents mostly Muslim second-generation foreigners in Switzerland (who colloquially are known as secondos) says the group will launch a nationwide campaign in October to ask Swiss citizens to consider adopting a flag that is less offensive to Muslim immigrants.
As Marisol posted at Jihadwatch:
Switzerland isn't forcing people to go live there if the flag offends them.

I live in Switzerland. They can ask all they want, but it won't happen. No way, no how.
The Swiss are kind and loving and generous, but they don't put up with nonsense at all. They do tons of stuff by referendum and if the flag changing thing were ever put to a vote I can guarantee it would fail by about 99 percent to 1.

I also live in Switzerland. Where are you? I'm in the Gros-de-Vaud.
This is not a big movement. It might get a laugh or eyeroll at dinner parties for about 5 seconds and then people discuss something else.
This is a very businessy country, and the flag is too much of a brand to give up, even if we weren't the sort of country to ban minarets.
Having said that, its nice to see that the immigrants have adopted the democratic referendum system so well. :p
The Swiss flag rocks. Its a square.

And yet, when there are enough Muslims in Switzerland, be sure that they will change the flag to reflect their Muslim values, and not worry about whether it offends Christians.

Thank God for Christians who don't want to undermine the American secular republic by having "under God" in the Pledge, In God We Trust on our money (hypocritical and unconstitutional!), as well as keeping atheists out of the Boy Scouts. The moral of the story is that religion is inherently non-democratic and trends towards theocracy/thugocracy.

What do you think would happen if a bunch of Swiss emigrated to say, Dubai, and asked them to reform their laws to accommodate their non-muslim beliefs?
I thought so. "Non-violent" muslims may sit down and shut the f*ck up now.
Oh, and please scrape those 'Tolerate' and 'Coexist' bumper stickers off your cars. Muslims have no interest whatsoever in tolerance or coexistence whatsoever, but they love that you think they do.
DrCos at November 8, 2011 3:38 AM
Andrew, I too am offended by this 'under God' thing and the 'in God we trust' (added in the 1950's).
The difference is here, you're not beheaded for refusing to say the 'under God' part (at least not yet).

So, are the Brits next? The Union Jack has, like, multiple crosses on it. Will a lobbying group there go for all the crosses as once, or one at a time?
Old RPM Daddy at November 8, 2011 4:37 AM
just so you know, anyone can put a law on the ballot with enough signatures so you get all sorts of crazies.
NicoleK at November 8, 2011 5:31 AM
Two things.
1. why would anyone want to live in a country where they find the culture offensive to them when their are dozens of countrie in the world which already support a pro muslim religious law lifestyle
2. any one else find it odd that the backers of this movement are not the people how used to live under islams bootheel, but the children of those who fled it and have never experinced it themselves?

What does that, y'know, mean?
Crid [CridComment at gmail] at November 8, 2011 9:18 PM
Well from a tactical standpoint if only the violent ones are standing it makes them much easier targets
lujlp at November 8, 2011 9:34 PM
DrCos, can I keep the coexist bumper sticker with the 6 gun makers? Double points since the Mossberg logo has a cross in it.
:)

Lujip, no, I think it makes sense. The kids didn't choose to come here, they were born here, but they aren't necessarily fully accepted into Swiss society. The Swiss have a reputation for being closed. I've had an easier transition, but I'm half-Swiss, white, middle class, speak fluent French and some German and Italian, and am of Protestant heritage, yet non-practicing. I can see how Muslim kids could feel alienated, and glom onto a strange issue like the flag.
There essentially saying, "Hey, we're Swiss too, right? So shouldn't this represent us too?"
The reality is, though, humans are tribal and it takes more than a bureaucrat's stamp to make you one of the tribe.
NicoleK at November 9, 2011 12:36 AM
Sio, I was informed there is also a 'Coexist' sticker with video game symbology on it. Yours and those (and any of the non-religious ones) would be fine.
But I'm not going to shoot you or blow up your car for something that offends me. I do reserve the right to piss and moan about it.
DrCos at November 9, 2011 2:43 AM
Is this a "real" thing? Or kind of like PETA's perennial calls for U of South Carolina to change the mascot from Gamecocks to "Gym Socks?"
Frank at November 9, 2011 9:07 AM
Frank, it is a real thing, in so far as there are a few people in Switzerland who want to do it. But like I said, any crazy can start a referendum project. It's not real as in an actual thing that could possibly pass in a million years.
