A Black Female Trump Supporter Explains Why
Jeffrey Tucker writes at FEE of what he was told by a black female Lyft driver who picked him up in Atlanta:
"Here it is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and I'm supposed to be all upset that Trump attacked John Lewis, but Trump is right. Lewis said he is not a legitimate president, so yeah Trump got upset. What exactly is Lewis doing to improve the lives of the poor in this town? Nothing. At least Trump has some ideas. He seems to care."Ok, now I'm listening.
"I'm glad Lewis marched in the protests so long ago," she continued, "but you have to do more than march. That's all these people do is march. Meanwhile, there are sections of Atlanta I'm afraid to drive in. And I say that as a black woman! It's not even about race. Many blacks in this town live better than white people anywhere in the world. But there's whole communities that have been forgotten. They are paid off with welfare checks but they don't have skills or jobs, and they fear for their lives on their own streets."
She was just getting going, so I wondered how far I could push this. What about Obamacare?
"Don't get me started. My premiums are through the roof. I can't afford it. Because I drive all day and night making money, I'm not poor enough to get any subsidies. So this year I'm going to have to pay $750 on my tax return because I can't afford to buy insurance. But I can't afford the health care either! And have you seen those deductibles? If anything should happen to you, you go bankrupt. I'll tell you who benefitted from Obamacare. Not the poor. It's the insurance companies and the government."
Well, Trump is promising people everything but a unicorn (in the decorator color of their choice) on healthcare. I'm sure that will work out very well. As Caleb Howe at RedState puts it:
Health Insurance "For Everybody" And The "Government Will Pay" Says "Republican" Donald Trump. AGAIN.
Tucker with the Lyft driver again:
...What about Trump's personal issues? He seems to have some odd opinions on women and minorities and so on.
"Everyone I know has odd opinions on things, stuff that's crazy and maybe dangerous. You and I probably have some weird views too. But so long as these views don't affect the country as a whole, it's cool. I don't really care. Plus, I'm a black woman and I'm working hard driving people all over this city. You think if he met me, he wouldn't like me? I think he would like me. I feel more connection to him and his views than I do to Obama and people like John Lewis.
Don't make the mistake of thinking she's "representative" of anyone but herself, but very possibly, others feel the same way.
P.S. In case you need to know, I am horrified about the impending presidency of The Big Orange -- the impulsive boor-elect, Donald Trump. (And no, I am not a Hillary fan, by any stretch of anything.)

Amy, why don't you wait and see what The Big Orange actually does?

Being horrified by something that is a sure thing and also out of your control, is kind of a waste of energy isnt it?
I try and borrow my troubles a little closer to home.
Hillary Clinton came very close to buying the Presidency with foreign money, influence pedaling and vote fraud.
That not happening was a good thing for the republic, and for you and me.

When Barack Obama first took office, his supporters were expecting so much out of him. They thought he was going to be able to unite this country, have Democrats and Republican working toward a common goal, bring us closer to world peace, end the perception of racism and close Guantanamo Bay. And when he came up short on all those, they just shrugged their shoulders. But now that Trump is becoming President, those same people are expecting the United States to decline into total ruin and chaos. And if that doesn't happen, they're going to be really upset.

You can be horrified all you want.
It does seem to be what people enjoy.
Meanwhile, I urge you to quit doing what the special snowflakes do - obsess about "might" - and focus on what is done.
Just what about those Cabinet picks backs up your disdain for the juvenile you imagine?
The country would be far better off examining just what geniuses are responsible for the financial, social and criminal wastelands known as "blue". That any Californian could look outside their state first for problems is just classic.

Are you horrified that Cubans who were promised that they would be accepted legally had that promised stripped away w/o warning or discussion? Is just that Trump called some people a NAME that is so much more horrifying than Obama simply ending promises.
Trump said to let Caitlyn Marie Jenner use any bathroom she wanted. Does that personal attitude horrify you? No? Then what LGBT position is at risk under Trump? It's more important that less than a dozen kids per school district use a particular bathroom than to address other issues affecting hundreds/thousands of kids in those districts? Okay. Seems shortsighted but ...
LGBTs were targeted by an Islamic terrorist in Florida. Obama's AG stripped his homage to Allah out of his 911 calls. Are you horrified by that? Do we do something about that? Trump might but we know Obama did not. Horrified?
Sexual violence against women. Billary did it in the flesh and emotionally because it kept them in political office and power. Trump did what? Said something BAD? Oh My. Horrified? We know that Hillary and the Feminists will throw women under any bus that nearby but that is not "horrible" enough to say stop? Pick and choose.
Honestly, so many like you have not really expressed why you are "horrified" by Trump but not at what has been done to you under the Clintons and Obama.

Most Hispanics and about half the Cubans interviwed were pretty happy about Obama stripping that right.
Everyone on our production floor was laughing and all the popular Spanish radio stations thought it was hilarious and well deserved. I havent watched Telemundo or Univision in a while so I dunno what they're saying but I assume it has made Obama more popular than before on those two stations.
About half of Cubans are Democrats now and this move cemented Obama more firmly and I expect an even bigger exodus into the Democratic party.
This is the kind of analysis you will never get from anyone because most articles talking about minorities exist from people who do not actually are part of whatever community they are talking about.
Like I know conservatives often bring up how Obama deports more illegals but meh No Hispanic really cares Obama deports more illegals, including all the illegals.
This is my problem with conservatives/libertarians writers. They write shitty articles like the one linked that dont really capture anything except some hypthetical scenario that is most likely embellished. All I ever see is coconuts or oreos or old white men (from the conservative side) and all I see is identity politics obsessed angry minorities on the left writing articles.
Nobody really captures what really goes on with minorities. What we think about Trump, whats going on in our neighborhoods, etc, why we dont go out to vote.
This fucking article is so ridic to me. Ohhh you met a black lady that voted for trump? Why the fuck are you even paid to write this shit? Smh.

Ppen,
1. "Most Hispanics and about half the Cubans interviwed were pretty happy about Obama stripping that right.
Everyone on our production floor was laughing and all the popular Spanish radio stations thought it was hilarious and well deserved."
Why would this be (not doubting you at all). Is it just "envy" for special treatment?
2. "All I ever see is coconuts or oreos or old white men (from the conservative side) and all I see is identity politics obsessed angry minorities on the left writing articles."
It is sad that there is no discussion as to "why". Identity politics is about all anyone has as I see it. Explaining why that "identity" (ex. see my question above) explains a lot.

With Trump we'll have a safeguard we haven't had in 8 years... A media, entertainment industry, and educational system, that will hold an INCUMBENT president accountable.

1. Old school Cubans don't like fresh off the raft Cubans and don't want them coming here.
2. The younger generation views it as a human rights violation--encouraging people to risk their lives to get here at all costs. They don't really remember Castro so they are really happy about the possibility of a new relationship with Cuba. This is the group of Cuban-Americans turning Democrat. The newer Cuban arrivals (post 1995) are also leaning more Democrat or Independent and completely eschewing the Republican party.
3. Other Hispanics just view it as fair play, nobody deserves special treatment. It's really expensive to come here (I think the Guatemalans in the shop paid like $10,000 to illegally get here about a decade ago and the price today is double)
4. Mexicans HATE Caribbean Hispanics and vise versa.
Ppen at January 18, 2017 3:19 PM
Most people in the US don't know anything of the truth about the daily lives of Cubans, except what they're told by major media types who adore Castro and pass along his lies.
"In the month’s biggest non-election news, the death of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro is greeted with expressions of sorrow from several dozen world leaders who never had to live under his rule and tears of happiness from many thousands of Cubans who did." ~ Dave Barry

I'm with Amy when it comes to her reservations about Trump. (And I voted for him, my primary reason being that I didn't want these soi-disant "refugees" who are fighting age and claim their only 14, inflicting the kind of hell they're causing in Europe right now.)
However, Trump is the master of the empty promise. We're going to repeal Obamacare and replace it with something else and it's going to be wonderful, he assured us.
I would have preferred to hear more about this wonderful plan. I was not going to be placated with being told it was going to be wonderful.
Patrick at January 18, 2017 3:51 PM
Well I am hoping that we do not have to keep the plans we do not like.
Bob in Texas at January 18, 2017 5:11 PM
Thanks Ppen. That's what I expected.
Query not really directed to you, is "identity politics" just "class warfare" redefined in a PC way?
It took decades for the Irish to be accepted in the large urban centers. I remember similar comments about the "boat" people from 'Nam and Cambodia. So SOSO.

That reminded me of the book "The Generation That Knew Not Josef" by Lloyd Billingsley, about the generation of intellectuals that witnessed life under Josef Stalin, and the next generation of leftists in the West that didn't.

You almost, but not quite, let the light in that time. I LOL'd, because I doubt you'd have made the same statement about someone who voted otherwise.
