This caption is wrong, it's one of the earliest color photographs, and it's outstanding. Fascinating subject, compellingly rendered. The richness of that fabric is worthy of the Sgt. Pepper gatefold.
The problem is that work, for most people, isn’t just a means of making money—it is a source of dignity and meaning and a central part of the social compact. Simply opting for accelerated creative destruction while deliberately warehousing the part of the population that cannot participate might work as a theoretical exercise, but it does not mesh with the wants and desires and aspirations of human beings.
That is a seriously good blog post.

The sound recording is a little bright and those might not be (typical) flatwounds, but this is certainly a contender for the most beautiful guitar ever built. Look at it, listen.
So this is late middle age in my mistily, vaguely-alcoholic (and mildly-overworked) consciousness: The first response to so many stimuli is to say Why d0000000on't you Go Fuck Yourself.

Unless IU has a secret slush fund like Big Sis and UCB, or are using donations, how can they purchase Kaplan? has the legislature appropriated money for this purchase?
Or is this going to be a case of the legislature, or donors, learning about this the same way we did? that could be awkward.

Sorry my bad. I saw "Indiana" in the article and got IU on the brain. Hopefully there is a cure for that.
Otherwise, I'll have to go shoot some hoops.

Russian spy ship sunk by sheep...ok, the freighter transporting some 8,800 sheep.
A Russian naval intelligence ship sank Thursday after colliding with a merchant freighter in foggy conditions on the Black Sea near Istanbul, the Turkish coast guard said. All 78 crew members on the Russian vessel were rescued.
The crew of the freighter Youzarsif H, a Togo-flagged ship traveling from Romania to Jordan and carrying 8,800 sheep, was unharmed and the ship suffered slight damage to its bow, according to local media reports.
It’s one of the strongest opioids in circulation, so deadly an amount smaller than a poppy seed can kill a person. Until July, when reports of carfentanil overdoses began to surface in the U.S., the substance was best known for knocking out moose and elephants -- or as a chemical weapon.
It was also just one of a whole constellation of companies that now operate under an ingenious model: take some banal product that has been sold forever at low margins, attach the disposable part to a proprietary system that pretends to improve it but really just locks pepole into a particular vendor, add a touch screen manufactured by Chinese tweens, call it “Smart,” and sell it to schlubby dads too indebted to buy a midlife crisis car and too unattractive to have an affair.

Nope, a Hurryin' Hoosier, but not much into it. A few years ago it became obvious that the government assistance with tuition by which I was allowed to 'pursue' so much of that education was mostly a charade to move the cash from the federal government to the University coffers. Some kids are bright, and they belong in lecture halls and library stacks... I certainly did not.

I didn't really mean to start a pile-on on Bill Nye. But if you're gonna call yourself "The Science Guy" and call your show "Bill Nye Saves the World" with a woman singing about her sex junk and not a hint of irony to be found in any of this nonsense, you kinda deserve it.
