1. Prove it. A mind so sloppy will let insanity drift into policy by the slightest breeze. (Did you hear the one about the steel tariffs?)
2. Name another joke he's made which any of us would remember... Not a piece of pointed sarcasm, not a sparky description of another person's shortcomings... Recall to us a single piece of mirth offered for it's own sake.
Credentialism be damned: An editor of the Harvard Kaw Review is permitted any number of jokes about constitutional principle which are unwelcome from an illiterate, multiply- bankrupted real estate shyster. Barry knew he was bullshitting.
Ronnie was on midterm swing through my town in his second term when a stadium full of Ozark stooges lit up a chant of "Four-more-years!" I will never forget the humility and sincerity of his instantaneous refutation. Even when addled with early-stage Alzheimer's, the Gipper knew better than to attempt such despicably sick "joking."
Any number of presidents have lamented having to deal with Congress and have remarked about how much easier it is to govern in a dictatorship - Bush and Obama were the latest before Trump's comment. Plenty have lamented the election process and the difficulties of running for re-election once in office.
Trump's comment was not on the same level, however. He seemed to wistfully want a lifetime presidency (not necessarily for himself, it must be admitted), versus the others merely acknowledging that dictators don't have to deal with a legislature or stand for re-election.
Should we take him at his absolute word that he wants a lifetime term? No. Trump has displayed a sense of humor at times and this comment should be taken as a mere lament and not evidence of a lust for absolute power.
A president with better judgement might have refrained from singing the praises of a lifetime appointment to power, it must be admitted.
I did once see Trump on The Apprentice joke about his combover. His hair was blown wildly by a helicopter rotor wash and he looked at the camera and said, "well, at least people will know it's my own hair."
