Amnesty International’s new report, “#ToxicTwitter: Violence and abuse against women online,” details Twitter’s failures to ensure safety online and prevent violence and abuse toward women. What Amnesty International is trying to achieve with this report, the organization’s technology and human rights researcher Azmina Dhrodia told TechCrunch, is to look at why and how this is a human rights issue.
By framing it as a human rights issue, Amnesty International says it hopes to be able to push Twitter to enforce its own policies consistently and be transparent about how it’s doing so.
“Twitter’s failure to adequately and consistently enforce their own policies is leading women to either silence or censor themselves online,” Dhrodia told me. “So women are either leaving the platform, they’re thinking five or six times over before they post anything, they’re taking social media breaks. They’re coming up with a whole bunch of different coping mechanisms in order to avoid violence and abuse because they know by speaking out, it’s not going to be dealt with.
They interview 86 women, mostly feminists, many of them a) known trolls, or b) harassers themselves
It's well known tons of twitter harassment comes from women (google the nation feminism's toxic twitter wars) but Amnesty seems to feel this is all about men harassing women.

Speaking of feminism's toxic twatter wars. I'm sure Ms. Quinn will not be accused of homophobia and no umbrage will be taken.
Former Democratic New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn on Tuesday said New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's (D.) Democratic challenger is a "unqualified lesbian."
The remark from Quinn, an openly-gay supporter of Cuomo, came one day after former "Sex and the City" actress Cynthia Nixon announced she would challenge Cuomo in the 2018 Democratic primary. Quinn told the New York Post in an interview that Nixon was an "unqualified lesbian" before taking a shot at Nixon for endorsing New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio over her in the 2013 Democratic primary for mayor.
Remember how Obamacare (i.e. the misnamed “Affordable Care Act”) was supposed to make sure that those who needed medical attention would be able to get it? Turns out that it did the opposite and helped make the situation worse.
As I tightwad, I agree with the blogger who makes fun of Rouner's article, which is called: "Please Stop Telling Poor People to 'Just Cook' to Save Money."
Trumps many voters and admirers must be just busting their buttons over this, just proud at heck that their faith in this principled public figure has been so decisively reward.
'Winning! WinningWinning! WinningWinningWinning! WinningWinningWinningWinningWinning! We're oblivious, needy idiots and we're out of our minds! We wanted Donald Trump to represent our interests and this is how it works! WinningWinningWinning!'
IIRC, that was also co-opted by vegans because of course they did.
Fun times at 9Gag with them bragging that they could feed a family of 5 for a week with nothing but rice, red beans, and split peas for less than $2 a day.
Got a link for that, Sixclaws? That's $2 a day for five people. Even when I take out junk food and takeout, MY food averages between $2 and $3 a day - for one person. Yes, I eat meat, but somehow, I doubt that explains the 5-to-1 difference.
What's ironic, now that I think about it, is that Rouner could so easily have avoided becoming a laughingstock (even at his own site!) AND started a serious debate. All he would've had to do was write the piece along the lines of "when you're poor, there's a good chance you're already working 60 hours a week, plus housework. If you have two small kids on top of that, how many would blame you for flopping, exhausted, into a seat at KFC or McDonald's, regularly?"
