Was thinking a couple hours ago that if you include JFK (almost certainly) and LBJ (quite probably indeed), there have been four presidents in my lifetime who've presumably launched missiles —flaming death from Heaven— upon distant lands to distract people from marital infidelity.

Change "launched missiles" to "launched attacks" and "marital infidelity" to "domestic issues" and you've got can include every president in your lifetime.
Of course, every military act by a president is going to invite charges of being used as a distraction, especially in these contentious times when every president is under investigation from inauguration to leaving office and, sometimes, even after that.
Coney, I think sex shame is different than other kinds of shame. I bet that given a large enough sample, a pattern of remote killing by men under threat of such humiliation would be demonstrated

Maybe instead of launching missiles at Syria, we should open a Chick-fil-A in Damascus.
If The New Yorker's hysteria is any indication, a franchise in Damascus could topple the Assad regime faster than any military strike.

Sex is very personal and carries hints of shame, embarrassment, and guilt. The humiliations and inadequacies related to sex sting far more than any other and invite much more violent repercussions, from men and women.
Agreement with that doesn't mean I agree with Rachel Maddow that Trump is launching airstrikes against Syria simply to cover up domestic troubles. Nobody's testifying in the morning, so the airstrike is a bit too far removed from what it's supposed to be covering up. Besides, I don't see Theresa May and Emmanuel Macron going along with Trump in potential acts of war to cover up his domestic issues.
