Tuesday night, and I'm a little wiped.
You pick the topics. I'll try to post a piece in the morning.

This might take a couple of posts for the sake of posting all the links I want to share. Disturbing video of 62-year-old Timothy G. Trybus harassing a woman, Mia Irizarry, who had rented space at the Caldwell Woods Forest Preserves to celebrate her 24th birthday.
It seems Irizarry had the temerity to wear a shirt with a stylized version of the Puerto Rican flag. With too much alcohol and a profound ignorance of Puerto Rico's status as a U.S. territory, the belligerent Trybus berated her for wearing it and questioned her citizenship, getting much too close to her in his vehement tirade, causing Irizarry to be concerned for her safety.
The distressing aspect was the nearby officer, Patrick Conner, who refused to intervene, even turning away so his body cam would not capture the altercation.
Conner would later claim that he was responding to another incident involving Trybus and another woman. (He does get around, doesn't he? The spry old guy must be quite the Casanova.)
Trybus was charged with assault and drunk and disorderly. Conner has been consigned to a desk job pending investigation of his apparent dereliction of duty.

Regarding the incident I mentioned above, the FPDCC (Forest Preserve Department of Cook County?) tweeted this statement.
I figure it doesn't matter at this point. The Forest Preserve Department, who claims their investigation was "immediate," may as well keep Patrick Conner as an officer. It's almost been an entire month; it's perfectly obvious that they don't plan on firing Conner like they should and they're hoping this incident will blow over.
What is to investigate? They have the video.

Just talked with Pfizer CEO and @SecAzar on our drug pricing blueprint. Pfizer is rolling back price hikes, so American patients don’t pay more. We applaud Pfizer for this decision and hope other companies do the same. Great news for the American people!

Feminist Apparel CEO Fires Entire Staff After They Learn He's An Admitted Sexual Abuser

Cave diving is an outrageously dangerous sport... Despite carefully-mixed gasses, gear composed of unimaginably refined materials, and the greatest imaginable proficiency, an ascending cave diver is at risk for severe and possibly permanent damage in the soft tissues.
Specifically, if he's just saved 12 young boys from what seemed like certain death in a brilliantly-coordinated and daring rescue, and he then passes a bar anywhere in the world, he's at risk for being blown to death.
Crid at July 11, 2018 4:19 AM
Snoopy:
No problem at all with his decision to fire them. Yes, he is an admitted sexual abuser; however, he came clean about that, admitted it was wrong, and decided to do something worthy for the cause of feminism (notice, I didn't say feminism was a worthy cause). He's allowed to manufacture clothing with feminist captions and illustrations and donate a portion of the proceeds to feminist causes. And he's also allowed to make a decent living for himself while doing it.
His staff needed a serious wakeup call. They're not a board of directors; they're employees. They have no business asking the CEO of his own company to resign. They have two options: 1) they can continue to work for the company, or 2) they kind find work somewhere else.

Distressing? we've had this discussion, and you've convinced me that the constabulary has no duty to do...anything.

Which, evidently, went so far over your head, you didn't even hear the WHOOOOOOOOSH!
The concept of legal duty is apparently too nuanced for you. That's okay. You can always go find a nice, shiny ball to play with. (Pat, pat.)
But here's a concept you might grasp. The officers on duty in the forest preserve in Cook County, Illinois have two choices. They can either take reasonable measures to protect those who have paid for their permits to rent specific areas who are being harassed by old drunks. Or they can simply ignore their distress, and even order those who try to help to stand down, allowing the harassment to continue unchecked.
And consequently, they can lose business as word gets out of their negligence. You see, the FPDCC also advertised a concert, inviting people to bring their snacks and chairs and enjoy the show.
But in light of their negligence, there's not a whole lot of enthusiasm to attend this event, since the cops apparently look away from someone who repeatedly begs and needs their help. That is, if the responses to this tweet are any indication.

"The concept of legal duty is apparently too nuanced for you."
Okay, so you're offended and you've overshot the point on your reply.
You know officers have no duty to protect any individual. This has been affirmed in several cases heard by the USSC, notably Warren v. DC and in fact should be apparent to any individual of merit given a few minutes to think about it: the first lawsuit for failing to protect an individual would bankrupt the city, county or state law enforcement agency, eliminating other government services.
Recent events at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas HS made this obvious, to the outrage of many.
If you want to reach past settled law to make the individual liable, the best you can hope for is to get him fired, and then, his employment record will just say that he failed to represent the law enforcement agency in the proper manner.

Did you know this about LA?
Radwaste at July 11, 2018 1:19 PM
Yep Rad. But it is my industry. There are fake buildings that hide oil pumps in LA. They look like office buildings on the outside but they are only a shell intended to keep the residents from being offended. What is even worse is all the greenies in the area have shut down so much drilling there is now a significant amount of oil that leaks into the pacific causing pollution. Not through capped wells but just through natural gaps in the bedrock.
