Power To The (Electricity-Free) People
The wiring in my house is too old to accommodate an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), but Gregg did try to get me one. Well, there's one on sale -- Daily Deal for Amazon Prime -- and it's $91 dollars off. List price: $215. Price today: $124.95. I'd get it if I could.
As listed: "CyberPower BRG1500AVRLCD Intelligent LCD UPS System, 1500VA/900W, 12 Outlets, AVR, Mini-Tower, 5-Year Warranty"
I think that's worth signing up for a Prime Trial -- which you can then quit before being charged, I'm pretty sure!
Umm, strictly speaking, what your wiring does is fail to provide a separate grounding provision per NFPA 70. So, when plugged in, a UPS will alert about a fault; it cannot guarantee its own line voltage will be capped with respect to ground, because it isn't provided.
Hey, look - modern wiring is another example of government standards and inspections that actually increase your personal safety.
Your predicament may also mean that Ground Fault Current Interrupt devices may also not work in your house. Their job is to release you from an energized circuit you inadvertently create with your body, such as one that may occur between a hairdryer and the wet bathroom floor.
