Trump Hearts Putin
My tweet:
This is @JonahNRO -- not exactly some hemp-chomping lefty: "Trump made it clear that he can only understand the investigation into Russian interference as an attempt to rob him of credit for his electoral victory, and thus to delegitimize his presidency." https://t.co/WA0oZlGPNE

Let's see what comes out of the process... he appears to have gotten results with it in North Korea. (Although we have yet to see implementation of that, but it's still early.) It's unorthodox, yes. That doesn't mean it won't work. As for the the usual until-recently-Russia-loving suspects who are screaming about it: STFU. I'm lookin' at you, John Brennan.

Anybody remember the "Reset" button fiasco?
At least Trump didn't show up with a cheap plastic gadget in a gift box, presenting it as if it were a Fabergé Egg.
Conan the Grammarian at July 17, 2018 7:02 AM
I'm not a big Trump fan, but I don't think that's a credible accusation - that he can't understand ...
More likely, he understands the significance of these accusations but didn't want to give them credence and so threw a left hook at his accusers - classic Trump.
We're in an unfortunately situation in the US where must of the 'establishment' is ethically and intellectually bankrupt. In a lot of other countries, this would result in a violent coup. But fortunately Americans eschew political violence, and instead elected Trump to be their hooligan. He's here to break things up and humiliate the establishment. You may not like how he does it, but still he's been pretty effective.

As opposed to how Hillary would have handled it, and would have had us thoroughly enmired in World War III by now.

What a time to be alive:
The Orange Vulgarian who was going to cause WWIII with Russia in his first year in office...is now a patsy pacifist because he refused to start WWIII in a diplomatic meeting that was less touchy-feely than George W Bush (who looked into Putin's soul before inviting him for horseback riding and movie night), Sec. of State Clinton (who gave the reset button), or Pres. Obama (who wanted Medvedev to assure Czar Putin that he would be free to be more compliant to Russian needs once he was re-elected).

For a bought & paid for Manchurian candidate, Trump has an odd way of repaying that back. He's imposed even stricter sanctions on the oligarchs, and US forces in Syria shredded a battalion sized formation of Russian mercenaries[*] back in March.
[*] not sure if they're mercenaries in the dictionary sense, or if they're Russian regulars minus a proper uniform, but the media called them mercs, so...

Intelligence agencies saying it was Russia could show us the evidence and save themselves a lot of trouble. It's getting strange that they refuse to do so.

British intelligence was directly involved in spreading malicious lies about Trump, with the goal of seeing Hillary elected

We’ve literally had politicians sell our country out to the highest bidder for decades. President Trump has one meeting & they are screaming treason? You have to be brainwashed or borderline mentally ill to be trapped in that mindset.

* Putin

I have no doubt that Russia attempted to influence the election. After all, they've been trying to for decades. The question is, is there anything new under the sun here? Social media buys don't impress anyone, and there's no credible evidence that they have been able to hack any U.S. voting systems. So yeah, they do that, and it's good to try to keep a lid on it generally. But barring any new revelations, it's not something to stay up nights about.

Yea, Yea, Yea; we "get it" - Trump is an Illegitimate President. And we were all stupid (or a basket of deplorables) for voting for him; just like those Brexit voters were too stupid to know what they were voting for.
hardy-har-har
Sarcasm off.
Maybe, just maybe, Trump is playing Putin by making him think that he (Putin) came out ahead in this meeting. Not an unusual tactic when making business deals because it often works.
So far, Trump has delivered more in his short time in office than the almighty-second-coming-of-Christ Obama delivered in his eight disastrous years of Obamanation.

Good grief... the die hard Trump supporters on this blog have to be biggest bunch of suckers known to man.
Really... the president of the United States declaring that it is our fault for deteriorating relations with the Russian government AFTER our own intelligence agencies have concluded that the Russians attempted to hack our electronic voting systems systems... and this is Trump playing Putin???
At this point I am convinced that there could be a live press conference in which Trump was sucking Putin's dick live on air and you would all be rationalizing after the fact that this was great because Trump finally has Putin just where he want's him.
What a bunch of sheep.

Another example of you being civil Artemis?
Ben at July 18, 2018 5:30 AM
"...AFTER our own intelligence agencies have concluded that the Russians attempted to hack our electronic voting systems systems"
Those same intelligence services got caught red-handed attempting to overturn the results of the election by illegal spying, character assassination and lawfare. Their leaders say openly that they wanted Clinton to win. You think Trump trusts them? If Frank Church was still around, he'd probably be siding with Trump on that.

Conan the Grammarian at July 18, 2018 3:50 PM
Ben,
Since when has this ever been a civil blog?
This has been an uncivil blog for over a decade.
If you would like to change things I am all for it... but it is going to have to start with you because I was civil for years and was constantly told this was the internet and civility was a ridiculous expectation.
As they say... when in Rome...
Artemis at July 18, 2018 11:14 PM
Charles,
What exactly was the gay slur?
Simply talking about homosexual actions isn't a slur anymore than talking about heterosexual actions is a slur.
The disturbing part of all this is that some of the folks on this blog are in so deep with Trump that you seem to have forgotten than he is supposed to represent our interests... not Russian interests.
Blaming the United States for the deterioration of a relationship with Russia and calling us and us alone stupid and foolish when our own intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia attempted to interfere with out democratic elections isn't representing our national interest.
This really isn't that difficult.
Artemis at July 18, 2018 11:21 PM
Thanks Conan, I can always count on you to be my copy editor.
Artemis at July 18, 2018 11:22 PM
Most of us are quite civil with each other. You on the other hand Artemis are regularly uncivil with pretty much everyone. Which is why your chiming in on others incivility was quite humorous a few days ago. The fact that you can't even tell when you are being insulting or using slurs is both disheartening and typical.
Ben at July 19, 2018 6:20 AM
First, Jonah hates Trump with a purple passion. Essentially every single one of his articles in NRO has some slur, insult or vitriolic hatred of Trump.
So he may be a Conservative, but that doesn't make him unbiased.
But does ANYONE believe that if Trump admitted Russian interference (like they've been trying to do since 1917 or so), that Andrea Mitchell and the NYT wouldn't immediately go 'AH HA! So you are illegitimate and you should have no power/step down/should be impeached'.
They would and trying to pretend otherwise is disingenuous.
Russia and every other nation on the planet, tries to influence American (and other) elections by various means, be it news articles, diplomatic preferences expressed, or buying $100,000 in Facebook ads.
So this feckless hyperventilating is a bit late to the game...or have we forgotten the something like FIVE HUNDRED Chinese people who fled the country after Congress started looking at Billary's political contributions and the fact Charlie Trie got indicted in '98.
So is HILLARY, who got $400,000 from Russia, ALSO a Russian stooge?
Objective metrics people!
FIDO at July 19, 2018 4:14 PM
Okay, only 120 people fled.
China got secrets, Clintons got cash.
But I don't recall the MSM of the time demanding Clinton be impeached.
Funny that...
FIDO at July 19, 2018 4:46 PM
Artemis: Good grief... the die hard Trump supporters on this blog have to be biggest bunch of suckers known to man.
They're going to support him -- or at least not criticize him -- no matter what he does because the alternative, Hillary Rodham Satan Clinton, would've confiscated everyone's guns, forbidden the practice of religion, thrown open our borders, destroyed our economy, and forced everyone to marry someone of the same sex.
JD at July 19, 2018 10:07 PM
Naw JD. We actually like most of what he is doing. I will admit I am nervous about the tariff stuff. And I think Sessions was a huge mistake. But that is about it. The truth is these are pretty retarded complaints.
Ben at July 20, 2018 6:56 AM
In all seriousness regarding Clinton, all scandals and dirty dealings aside, during the email probe she told the FBI she hit her head and forgot 40yrs of classified materials handling and couldnt remember more than an hour or two of what she did any given day as Sec of State

Nice staw man there. Most of us, just didn’t want a continuation of the gramascian damage that acelerated under Obama, and the democratic party.
Isab at July 20, 2018 12:16 PM
Isab, I'm assuming that the "gramscian" is a reference is to Antonio Gramsci and his theories.
That reference and an earlier thread discussion bring to mind the circular and cannibalistic nature of early 20th century Italian politics. Italian neo-Marxist, Gramsci, was heavily influenced by French socialist, Georges Sorel, who also heavily influenced Italian fascist, Benito Mussolini, who imprisoned Gramsci.

Ben Says:
"Most of us are quite civil with each other."
No Ben.
You and those like you are civil only to those who agree with you.
You are consistently uncivil with those who express differing views.
That isn't evidence of civility.
If you can only treat people nicely when they agree with you then by definition you are an intolerant and uncivil individual.
Artemis at July 24, 2018 3:04 PM
Ben,
Just to further make my point... JD and I never seem to have any issues.
Therefore I must be civil as well :)
