Burglar, Burglar, Go Away!
There are two ways to protect your house from burglars -- with real video cameras or with fake, real-looking ones (for under $10 each).
The best way is with video cameras like those on sale in Today's Deal from Amazon, Arlo by Netgear. Other cameras are the Nest or Ring. (Others at that link, too.)
And then, there's the fake outdoor security camera -- for, oh, $7.99 (or more if you want a few) -- to make it at least look like you have security cameras. I can't do real ones right now, but I think I'd like to at least do fake ones.
This is from NextDoor:
Be wary of the fine print. The Ring flood light camera forces you to join up with a Ring online community.
I can't speak about the Nest offering. I will remind people that Nest intentionally bricked their old, out-of-date hubs.

Buyer beware.

We installed a Ring floodlight this weekend and have been pretty happy with it so far. We will probably get a couple more to cover the house from all angles. Someone stole the industrial chains used to tie down the Bobcat off of the back of my husband's truck overnight last Wednesday. We live on 5 acres, and you can't see our cars from the street, so someone has obviously been casing the house... and now they know we have valuable tools and materials.
So, yeah, I'd rather be forced to join and online community than have meth heads creeping around my house in the middle of the night. Our friend who works from home, in town, has access to our camera, and we have access to his.
