I ended up taking the subway most of the way home from mediation training downtown, in the LA City Attorney's Office (I erred before in saying "District Attorney," and I have to go back and clean that up when I'm not so tired).
As for the subway, it was only "most of the way" because Los Angeles decided not to have the train go all the way to the ocean down MAJOR THOROUGHFARE Venice Boulevard, so Gregg came and picked me up from the Bundy/Expo station.
Also, it's not really "sub" for much of the way because it runs above ground.
Also, this particular city subway has THE WORST FUCKING DIRECTIONS of the various subways I've written: Paris and New York a lot. San Francisco a little.
On a positive note, I overheard this really smart, informed girl (maybe 19 or so) talking about all sorts of things, all the way from downtown, and I felt some hope for our society.
Best of the month contenders: One. Two.

This is what I was talking about yesterday with Shapiro & AOC: Could this fellow sincerely depressed to any meaningful degree? Sure, AOC has her problems, and Shapiro in an imperfect chap... But why are people allowing themselves to be troubled by rhetoric of this kind? ...Or even amused by these tiny little fartbattles?
Clucking is a bad thing to do. People shouldn't cluck. Not a rhetor, not his counterpart, not the onlookers.
An old buddy used to do great sarcasm for anyone who'd end a thought with "...And I just think it's kind of a sad commentary...."

That's called all or nothing thinking -
"These sweeping generalizations are known as selective abstractions. This cognitive distortion occurs when an individual makes a judgment based on some information but disregards other information. These kinds of all or nothing beliefs can be detrimental to our emotional well-being as well as our overall functioning."

Well Kitten, you're the practitioner of this demented adoration, not me.
I can't imagine thinking of any other biped as devotedly —and pathetically— as you regard Donald Trump.
I mean, you're old enough to drive, right? Library card? Taxes?

Like what? Really curious as to what topics a 19 year old might be well informed on, and the sources of her information about the world.
I have heard ten year olds say some amazingly astute thungs, but I also recognized that I wasn't hearing an original thought.

I've ridden on Paris's subway before, back in 1986, as well as the adjoining RER commuter railway. Good facilities, but directions a little iffy, and I didn't know French, so some kind, scruffy, perhaps-homeless Frenchman -- during my second day trip that year from Geneva to Paris -- showed me to the proper platform for a somewhat princely sum of 5 Francs (less than 1 dollar at the time).

Written? You must be tired.
San Francisco's subway systems (BART and Muni) actually have pretty decent instructions and maps, although the Muni payment system is unnecessarily complicated. Charlotte just installed a light rail (Lynx) and I have yet to find a coherent map telling me where the damned thing goes. C'mon Charlotte, even MARTA has a decent map.
This so-called debate was never anything more than a publicity stunt. For AOC, it's a no-win proposition. If she wins, she's beaten someone not actually in the race and lost time and effort from battling her actual opponent. If she loses, her opponent gains another talking point against her. For Shapiro, it was a win-win. If he won, he got kudos from his following and if he lost, he and his followers would cherry-pick AOC's performance for things that reinforced their dislike of her.

Water does not compress like dirt does. At certain speeds, you're better off landing on dirt than on water; landing on water at high speeds can be like landing on concrete. Whoever pushed her could have killed her.

She's already won - she's parlayed 16,000 votes into continuous media coverage for weeks on end, and all the "conservatives" are helping her along by giving her more coverage.

Yep. A Democrat has mastered the Trump strategy: dominate media coverage of the race until you're the only name on the ballot anyone recognizes.
Kamala Harris did the same thing in California during her Senate race. No one knew who Loretta Sanchez was because Harris dominated the news cycle and, as a moderate Blue Dog Democrat, Sanchez didn't attract media attention the way the more outspoken Harris did.
