Sleaze Gets Out Of The Small Screen And Gets Given The Big Stage
#APA2018 is the American Psychological Association's annual conference, taking place now in San Francisco:
This is completely terrible -- inexcusable. For his victimization of Shelley Duvall alone. And what's the "funny thing"? How Dr. Phil got wildly wealthy and famous by publicly preying on psychologically weak people on television? Hah, hah...what a laugh riot. https://t.co/xfJVrR8pfD

Via @PsychRabble -- Rutgers psychology professor Lee Jussim, whom they should have had speak instead.
yeah, Dr. Phil gets away with wild speculation about his guests and publicly reveals all sorts of stuff about them normally subject to doctor-patient confidentiality. Even if he were always right (which he is not) he often humiliates them publicly. ugh

Kind of amazing, after seeing the show even one time, why anyone would ever volunteer to be on it?
But should we be in the business of vilifying people like Dr Phil? No different from any other reality television star.
I think they are all trash but understand why people watch it.

Yeah, Dr. Phil's a giant d*ck, and my Mom watches him anyway. I used to like him myself, but he's such an exploiter. Duvall seemed to be in the throes of dementia on the episode Amy mentioned; Amy opened my eyes to what he was doing. No better than other idjits like Jenny Jones, who effectively got that gay fella killed by having him confess he had a crush on one of her (obscenely insecure) male guests.

Well Dr. Oz in on the medical faculty at Columbia as the director of his own 'experiential' medical program.
This despite the entire medical faculty pleading with the university not to give him a position, and even the APA intervening. He's also been stripped of his medical degree by Penn. But none of this matters to Columbia because he has a TV show.
Columbia is riddled with similar sinecures for politicians and celebrities. Where most universities simply give out honorary degrees, Columbia actually puts people on the faculty and gives them directorships.
Of course, it's all a scam, these people rarely do anything, maybe a lecture or two. Columbia uses them to impress members of the public who don't know better. And the academic faculty has to hold their noses and pretend they're peers.
