Linkologist
If you have a Ph.D. in links, yes, you can call yourself this. You can also call yourself a psychologist if you are researcher with a Ph.D. in psychology. This is different from advertising your services as a therapist (scroll down at the link).
If there are any AD&D addicts or former addicts, doubtless you know about the horrifying creature known as the beholder.
This woman created a beholder costume for her infant son to wear on Halloween.

Here's a hot take that's inspiring an avalanche of "NO!" in the replies. It seems that Dr. Warren J. Blumenfeld, editor of Homophobia: How We All Pay the Price and co-editor of Readings for Diversity and Social Justice, believes that we should expand the definition of "veteran" to include Social Justice Warriors, or, as he puts it, "those who advocate for change through peace."
My favorite response was from a woman who calls herself Jessica Fletcher. Her response was pure murder. She wrote"

Silly me! I forgot to include a link to the article about Blumenfeld's belief that we should expand the definition of "veteran" to include SJW's. Here it is.

Unless I missed something, I believe his actual testimony was, "I got into Yale Law School. That’s the number-one law school in the country. I had no connections there. I got there by busting my tail in college."
Yale Law School, not Yale University, where he was a legacy student.

Maybe we should just keep an ongoing 'Florida' thread for this sort of thing.

That's pretty - SQUIRREL!! - funny.

There's this senior person, one of the all-time crackerjack political minds of my acquaintance, but too old and distracted now to care about or pay attention to news stories. And when I described, even-handedly, the events of the past week, she said it's over.

I always thought that "permanent record" thing that teachers used to threaten us with was a made-up thing. Apparently not. Your high school antics can follow you into your fifties.
Having a legacy grandfather at Yale University as a rule means little-to-nothing in Yale Law School admissions, so Kavanaugh was being truthful in saying he had no connections to Yale Law School.
Those opposed to Kavanaugh's appointment are trying to turn that testimony into a perjury charge by ignoring the "Law School" part of his testimony.
Likely he is. And only partially by his own doing. Best he'd gotten ahead of things, but how could he when it was sprung at the last minute. Besides, every witness named as a corroborating witness refuted the accusation. How do you get ahead of something that can't be killed?
However it turns out, this was a stab in the gut of our republic - possibly even a mortal wound, I fear - and was not a shining moment for our elected representatives. No one did themselves proud during this.
How many qualified SCOTUS nominees will we lose as a result of this? What will our Court look like when populated with jurists who never crossed a line as far back as high school, never drank too much, never had awkward sex, never made an inappropriate comment? This will not get us better nominees, only second-rate ones - whether Kavanaugh deserves to be dropped or not.

Ideological opponents will presume you're affirming that only gang-rapist-white-guys could adjudicate to your taste.
Here's the thing about ambition at his level: Whatever, man. No tears. That woman was a lying bitch, dog ate your homework, daughter Dot lost in a Kansas tornado, whatever. I'm seriously sorry that your good name was slandered by savage political opponents, but *I/we* never promised you a motherfucking thing... My/our loyalty is to my/our interests, not yours. If fate tumbles against you, we can find 50,000 others of every race and color and sexual distinction who are no less accomplished who can do the work as well... 25K with our preferred political impulses. Now GET OUT OF THE WAY.
Those "wise Latina" jokes aren't as funny as they used to be....
Crid at September 30, 2018 7:11 PM
Can we? Who would accept a nomination knowing what was ahead in the confirmation process; that any youthful indiscretion in high school could be broadcast and twisted to portray you in the worst possible light on a national stage? That you'll be tarred with a broad brush - and by people far less accomplished than you?
Mere unsubstantiated accusation will be enough to condemn you. Any mistake in your testimony will be used to brand you a liar. The modern Inquisition will destroy you for political heresy. Better to stay in your current job.
This is not how you find people to sit on the Supreme Court. This is how you scare qualified people away from doing the job. How long before the Court has been diminished by these brawls and eventually delegitimized by second-rate justices?
Compounding the problem is that you lose those destroyed nominees for their old job as well. How effective a judge do you think Kavanaugh can be now? After twelve years of stellar jurisprudence, he's finished. And the people who destroyed him will call it justified. And they will do it again to the next nominee they don't like. This was not a one-off.

I'm impressed that Sotomayor's pitch was so close - and a bit bothered that Nolan Ryan's was so far out. He's a Hall of Fame pitcher for Pete's sake.
Conan the Grammarian at September 30, 2018 8:30 PM
Age comes for us all Conan. Or at least that is my guess for Ryan's pitch.
I'm half with Crid and half not. Virtually all of the arguments around Kavanaugh have been poorly thought out and flimsy. And that is on both sides. Not too surprising given the accusations. In the end do they have the votes or not. That is all that really matters. So I don't know if he's done or not. But this isn't the first time this has happened. It is just another example. And yes, it won't be the last time either.
What is more interesting to me is with how transparent this has been the Democrats have ticked off a lot of people. Even some traditional Democrat voters are mad about this. The blue wave Democrats were predicting and hoping for was already looking like a delusion but with how they've acted here they may have done more harm to themselves than help.
