Re Silverstein, I never heard that song before, and I wondered "which book is that from?" Answer: Probably none of them. The song, however, is in the album "Shel Silverstein: Essential Folk Masters."

How does nobody think this is really strange? Everyone is like "oh great memories from the muppet show! love this!"

Yeah, I just showed this to my 18 year old son and he said, “did no-one find this terrifying?” I had to explain that back in the 70’s these scenarios were so far-Fetched that we knew they weren’t real. We thought nobody would actually do such a thing, so we could laugh. Nowadays we’ve heard of people who have actually done this kind of stuff so it’s no longer appropriate humor.
(end)
And, sad to say, the same is true of classic Punch and Judy puppet shows. While we don't FREQUENTLY come across TV news stories of adults throwing babies out of windows (yes, that was a typical move for Punch), it's common enough to come across stories that are just as horrific - never mind stories of beating one's spouse with sticks. Even a little kid who can't read can easily hear such news stories just by turning on the TV - if parents are careless enough to let that happen.
Normally, Punch didn't get punished for his sins, even after bumping off several adult characters. I don't know just when it started becoming common for the crocodile to eat him, but the one time I saw a live Punch & Judy show, MANY years ago, that was how it ended.
Anyway, here's something else:
"Ten Skits That Prove ‘The Muppet Show’ Was For Adults More Than Kids"
"I don't even want to know how much someone's carbon footprint was enlarged to create this thing."
Probably not as much as you think. Stainless tubing is produced by the mile to supply pressure sensing and indication lines for industry. Setting a cutter to chop tubing every few inches is trivial, and thousands can be produced - by diverting industrial supply briefly - in minutes.
When some silly little son of privilege hurts your feelings.

The Muppet Show was a lot edgier than people gave it credit for.

I'd like to believe Silverstein would rip today's histrionic oversensitives a new one.

From Sixclaws's link:
"Women, tell your male friends individually that there's NO chance of you being in a relationship or having sex EVER.
How many "male friends" do you have now?"
And then try doing that to all your female friends. How many 'female friends' do you have now? Probably the same number as your 'male friends'.
She has an honest point about human nature. But then she extends it out to crazy town.

FML, I was supposed to go out tonight.
Instead I refer you to the latest in the inevitable downward spiral of humanity:
Your own personal stainless steel straw to purchase and care for.
I don't even want to know how much someone's carbon footprint was enlarged to create this thing.

Nonetheless, and I'm terribly sorry... They look cool...

I carry my own straw.
Not on mass transit you wont, they are metal, and could be used to stab someone.
