Rectal Reasoning
Robby Soave writes at Reason that "Public Health Experts Have Undermined Their Own Case for the COVID-19 Lockdowns."
More than a thousand public health experts signed an open letter specifically stating that "we do not condemn these gatherings as risky for COVID-19 transmission. We support them as vital to the national public health and to the threatened health specifically of Black people in the United States."
IDIOCY.
As Soave notes:
Police violence is a metaphorical disease. Coronavirus is a literal disease.
Viruses don't skip you because you have a good cause. Writing BLM on your forehead like stores do -- for what my boyfriend referred to as a sort of "Passover" effect -- will not protect you.
About six years ago, I read a story about air quality in Portland, in particular, the presence of heavy metals in the air there far in excess of what you would find in formerly-industrial towns like Detroit or Pittsburgh. The source of the arsenic and cobalt in the air was artisanal glass blowing. Further, they adopted "mixed use" in certain neighborhoods, so these glass shops were right in the middle of where people lived.
They interviewed the hippy-dippy woman whose house abutted the glass blowing place, and when they explained the heavy metals to her, I remember her saying (paraphrase), "That isn't supposed to happen to me. That's supposed to happen to white Republicans. I volunteer at an abortion clinic; I donate time and money to causes; I have progressive views."
I'm sure they all worship SCIENCE!, too.

It was always a political tool. Nothing more.

It really highlighted the hypocrisy how fast so many groups were to switch on this.

They're admitting the lock down was a farce? that the last 3 months a kabuki theater performance?
Good to know. I'd compare our medical practitioners to witch doctors, but that would be offensive.
To witch doctors.

Civilization is a fragile thing. Mob rule and anarchy are not a viable way to live. At all. There were only about 19 (17?) unarmed black men killed by police last year according to the Washington Post. This is not genocide. 7000+ blacks were killed mostly by other blacks. If it is genocide it is self-inflicted. There are opportunities like never in history for blacks but if you join a gang and boost cars you are not going to get those opportunities.

Excellent tweet from Big Mac, and she has a column with more:
Most egregious has been the suppression of the churches. (Notably, DiBlasio's inexplicable pressure upon New York's observant Jews.) If I was a minister, and a politician or anyone else told me that the services of my flock (including funerals) were too risky but protests and sometimes looting were forgivable....
Read the tweet thread, read the column (she deliberately puts different thoughts in each).
THEY ARE IMPERFECT. The woman has enormous blind spots

BLM is a powerful new social device: It means whatever you say it means.
(Not gonna lie, it was kind of already like that.)Crid at June 5, 2020 4:21 PM
I don't think they think that Covid won't spread,I think they accept it because they feel racism is a worse plague, and think these protests will solve it. And if the protests DID solve racism, perhaps Covid deaths would be worth it.
Now, raise your hand if you think racism will be over after these protests?
That, or they don't want to be guillotined and so don't want to tell the protestors to stay home.

It is a lot simpler than that NicoleK.
1. Things I like will be permitted.
2. Things I don't like will be prohibited.
Everything else is just window dressing.

I really believe that there is going to be a reckoning in state governments. At least the ones where the republicans control the legislature.
There is going to be a serious claw back of the ability of state and city officials to both declare a health emergency and what they can mandate under one.
I have never seen so much blatantly unconstitutional bullshit in my life.
It will be a long time before they can stampede us into an unconstitutional lockdown again. At least in my state.

Gathering in large groups to protest "un-approved" grievances (such as the shutdown) means that you are selfish and want to kill granny.
Gathering in large groups to protest "approved" grievances (such as the death of black criminals at the hands of police) mean that you are noble and full of virtue; And, now apparently immune to the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.
