Poor White Pregnant Women, You're Outta Luck!
Marina Pitofsky writes at The Hill that pregnant black and Pacific Islander women in San Francisco will receive a $1,000 monthly supplement:
Approximately 150 pregnant Black and Pacific Islander women in San Francisco will receive a $1,000 monthly supplement during their pregnancies and for the first six months of their babies' lives, the city's mayor announced.Mayor London Breed's (D) office said on Monday that the Abundant Birth Project is the first of its kind in the country. The project's goal is to eventually provide a supplement for as long as two years post-pregnancy.
"Providing guaranteed income support to mothers during pregnancy is an innovative and equitable approach that will ease some of the financial stress that all too often keeps women from being able to put their health first," Breed said.
"The Abundant Birth Project is rooted in racial justice and recognizes that Black and Pacific Islander mothers suffer disparate health impacts, in part because of the persistent wealth and income gap. Thanks to the work of the many partners involved, we are taking real action to end these disparities and are empowering mothers with the resources they need to have healthy pregnancies and births," she added.
It's good to help pregnant women who need help, whatever their color or cultural background. A fair and non-racist program would select pregnant women to help financially per their income level, Irrespective of race, etc.
"A fair and non-racist program..."
Yuck! Only a bigot would want that.

That seems blatantly illegal.

So, being a pregnant black of PI woman is now a paying job in San Francisco?
Once people figure out how to game the system, this is gonna cost the city far in excess of the original projections.

That's "...pregnant black or PI woman...."

Abundant birth is what your going get with payouts like that. Talk about a cottage industry....

Not exactly the same, but, if true, this is very creepy. As one commentator pointed out, it brings to mind those men in past news stories who KIDNAPPED women for breeding purposes. (Sometimes their wives were complicit in the kidnappings.)
https://old.reddit.com/r/EntitledPeople/comments/itmpoi/the_time_i_was_asked_to_be_a_surrogote_for_an/
In a nutshell, the OP (a young homeless woman) was "asked" to be a surrogate mother to a Christian couple she hardly knew in exchange for room and board, politely refused, only to find the couple had discussed it with their entire church beforehand and then gave EVERYONE her phone number so they could shame her into complying! She demanded that the pastor stop the harassment. Trouble is, the couple lied to the pastor about what happened, so now he's accusing HER of possibly criminal behavior! Luckily, she now has a lawyer.

This anti-Portuguese bias has to stop.

We’ve been over this before Lenona. Reddit is not a reliable source of information. None of these people are believable. It’s click bait.

I know, but those horrific mainstream news stories I mentioned would sound even MORE ludicrous if there hadn't been a ton of proof. The three women in Cleveland. Jaycee Dugard. Elizabeth Smart (yes, I know she didn't get pregnant, thank goodness - apparently, that was just luck because of her age). Elisabeth Fritzl (from Austria, in 2008 - her story is even worse than any of the others).
Does anyone still disbelieve THEM? I hope not.

I met an attorney who was speaking sign-language and I struck up a conversation because she appeared to be a native speaker and I come from a family of deaf people.
Before my mother cane along, her father’s side of the family had at least 6 uninterrupted generations of deaf people.
She explained that our background was a mixed bag. While they had the gift of a language from birth, unlike deaf children born to hearing parents, deaf people are by far the poorest demographic.
I had never heard that, but it makes sense. My grandparents were the first in the family to go to school (until 8th grade) or work. Possibly as part of a genetic syndrome, my grandfather also was visually impartial and lacked balance. The family was quite poor. They grew 99% of their food in a regular size backyard ( less than 1/10 acre) and when my mom was little, lived in a home with no water or electricity.
I imagine that it is difficult to support yourself much less build up the generational wealth that I hear that white people have, especially if you have little education, cannot hear, cannot speak, and cannot use machinery.

This describes 90 percent of rural America prior to 1950. And they were the well off ones, who generally escaped the polio, typhoid and influenza epidemics that ravaged the cities.
Born in 1955, I and my cousins were the first generation not to be born at home.
Most of my relatives still lived on homesteads on the plains, and cooked on wood stoves. No REA, refrigeration or indoor plumbing until the 1960s.
Kind of amazing how blinded people can be to the advantages of living in early 21st century America even for the poor.
There are three kinds of generational wealth can can be passed down to your descendants. Only two of those can survive a predatory government, Cultural values and smarts.
The leftists are working hard to destroy all three.

Jen, I am white. My grandfather on my mother's side grew up on a farm. I believe it was when he hit 16 his dad took him to the property line and said 'You are a man now. Get off my land.' So grandpa joined the military. He was amazed by all the people who complained about the food. For him that was the first time he had ever been full.
Wealth isn't determined by the color of your skin. Neither is education.
Ben at September 18, 2020 11:44 AM
It may have been James Baldwin who said something to the effect of: "White privilege doesn't mean that being white protects you from poverty or suffering. It means that if you're going to aim for the Ivy League or to be a CEO, you'd better be white."
I.e., black people are sick and tired of being expected to be happy with minimum-wage jobs - which are often dangerous - if and when they happen to be better qualified than that. (Much like anyone else in that oppressive situation. So it shouldn't be surprising when any such group complains about that expectation.)

"He was amazed by all the people who complained about the food. For him that was the first time he had ever been full."
There's one thing you could say for the military mess halls in my day: You'd never hear that old Borscht Belt joke told about them, "The food is terrible and the portions are so small." If a recruit didn't reach his full physical potential, it was never because of a lack of food or exercise.
But I'm not sure if it's still that way, considering the current military leadership's obsession with BMI.
markm at September 19, 2020 7:13 AM
Will you be letting Denzel Washington or Will Smith know that they should be happy with minimum wage jobs?
Will you be letting Myron Rolle know that he can't attend an Ivy League medical school? Let Ben Carson know, too, that his Yale undergraduate degree is invalid.
Will you be telling Tony Dungy that a black man will never be allowed to coach in the NFL because black coaches can't win the Super Bowl?
Will you be telling Michael Jordan that the NBA will never allow a black man to own an NBA team?
If they have the talent and are willing to put the work in, black people can achieve anything they want in life, no matter what stands in their way. Someone needs to tell them that.

And no one would accuse Chris Rock of being a slacker either. Everyone knows his name, after all. However, he still felt the need to say the following in this recent interview.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/16/arts/television/chris-rock-fargo.html
Near the end:
...You’ve been telling audiences for years that racism isn’t going away and remains a potent force in America. Do you feel like you’ve seen circumstances improve at all?
It’s real. It’s not going away. I said this before, but Obama becoming the president, it’s progress for white people. It’s not progress for Black people. It’s the Jackie Robinson thing. It’s written like he broke a barrier, as if there weren’t Black people that could play before him. And that’s how white people have learned about racism. They think, when these people work hard enough, they’ll be like Jackie. And the real narrative should be that these people, the Black people, are being abused by a group of people that are mentally handicapped. And we’re trying to get them past their mental handicaps to see that all people are equal.
Humanity isn’t progress — it’s only progress for the person that’s taking your humanity. If a woman’s in an abusive relationship and her husband stops beating her, you wouldn’t say she’s made progress, right? But that’s what we do with Black people. We’re constantly told that we’re making progress. The relationship we’re in — the arranged marriage that we’re in — it’s that we’re getting beat less.
(snip)
