Personal Care
Kindly wash. If you're going to the movies, don't spray yourself with perfume, and especially not at forcefield volume. And kindly don't brush your hair or trim your cuticles in a place that serves food. In a word, EEEUW!

And then, how about if you, um, leave a stain of a personal nature on a friend's furniture? Has that ever happened to you?

Talk to me about your experiences in this arena!

OMG years ago when I worked as a delivery driver we had one guy with some HEFTY B.O. It was BAD. We begged the manager to do something about it but he was too much of a wimp to say anything to the guy, so the guys who had to share a car with him (he took it in the morning and swapped with someone in the afternoon) decided to take matters into their own hands.

One day we all walk out to load up our cars, and there's stinky's car, completely FULL of those pine tree air fresheners. I'm not kidding, there had to be a hundred of those things in there.

We all cracked up, but stinky remained ever clueless and continued to stink up the car.

Even several months after he quit, on a hot day you could smell the B.O. seeping from the upholstery. Ewwwwww....

Worst part? When he got that car, it was BRAND NEW. He stunk up a BRAND NEW car, which meant we were going to be driving it for the next 3-5 years.

THE grossest thing I ever saw in my life was on a whale watch in Maine. I had been out on deck the whole cruise, was feeling a little cold and decided to get coffee. A woman was sitting inside on a bench and was peeling thick sheets of skin off the bottoms of her feet and from in between her toes and was dropping them on the floor. She continued it all the way into the harbor, 20, maybe 20 minutes, then walked off and left it.

Why don't people in Europe bathe when they travel????? I just experienced this on a recent trip to London and Dublin and it's just gross.

I once taught a week long class in Helsinki. All the men showed up on Monday clean, fresh, looking normal. Every day they wore the exact same clothes and every day their hair got greasier and room smelled worse. By Friday I was gagging. On Friday a.m. they all checked out of their hotels to catch the train home at the end of the day so they all brought their "luggage" to class. No lie, every single one of them had a briefcase that contained a toothbrush and toothpaste and that was it. I suppose I should have just been grateful they were willing to brush their teeth.

I just don't get it. The hotels have showers, towels, soap and shampoo (although never any washcloths). Why not use them? Why not bring just a tiny bag with some clean underwear any maybe a couple of shirts? WHY WHY WHY? Someone please explain.

My husband and I were enjoying a meal in a nice restaurant when I noticed a guy at another table flossing his teeth. Appetizing!

Damn, Lesley, you found us out! No one in Europe ever showers or bathes! And you forgot, no woman here ever shaves her legs or armpits either.

Way to be ignorant and cement stereotypes!

I go to France frequently, and the only people I notice there who don't bathe are the North Africans. I go to Italy and England sometimes (every few years), and haven't found people to be unwashed. I'm also friends with many Europeans -- from Switzerland, France, Finland, and Russia, and find them all quite clean and regular washers!

I can't explain Lesley's experience, but I do think you can't say, from that experience, that "Europeans" don't bathe.

And were they staying in "hotels" or hostels? Maybe there's a problem with storing clothing?

so i work in a hospital, there's plenty of gross stuff there. one time, though, a family member of a patient, after asking some questions at the nurses' station, turned to leave - and shook the turds out of her pants right on the floor.
