Yet another example of why "feelings" (whether the child's or the parent's) are NOT a good measure of whether the parent is doing the right thing:

Note the last paragraph in particular. What's especially interesting is that I have never heard any enemy of his who dared to say "yes, it DID fail with my kid."

On Aug. 25th, 2018, there was a Twitter thread here that included the question "when did the proper response to an ass-grab stop being a slap across the face and a shouted 'how DARE you'?"
(As opposed to going to the police or other authorities.)
I said here (but not in Twitter):
"I'd say that MAYBE the slapping stopped when women realized they just might get arrested for slapping.
"...Or, when the man is a client or a superior, the woman can get fired - though I'm assuming that wasn't the case here."
(What I should have added was that a man who gropes a woman in the first place could easily be the type who would hit her back twice as hard - and maybe knock out her teeth. Not to mention that men who grope typically have more power and prestige than the women they attack - so such a man might well choose - and succeed - to have her arrested.)
Anyway, somebody asked a similar (but polite) question recently at Miss Manners' column.

MM's first response was:
"Did those cads have any power over your livelihood?"
The commentators expanded on MM's point. These caught my eye, especially.
(Of course, even today, there's no shortage of minimum wage earners, who, if they left their jobs, really would be risking homelessness for themselves and any children or elderly parents they're supporting. Not everyone has enough savings for even one month.)

"If I had to quit every bloody job where someone harassed me I would have some serious explaining to do with my spotty resume. Not to mention my finances would have been in ruin. It seems soooo easy, but there's a LOT to take into consideration."
Arby19
"I honestly believe that a lot of people have no idea how bad it has actually been. And it's so easy just to say 'do something about it.'..."
Candace:
"Exactly this. My mother put up with some horrible situations at work, but back then the expectation was that this would happen everywhere. There would be no point in quitting to go somewhere else."
(There was also a horrific comment about how even mothers of young children didn't USED to report teenage boys who tried to molest the children...they would just tell the kids to avoid the aggressors.)

"Proposed Missouri law would make drunken drivers pay child support if parent is killed in accident"

I hate to say it, but I don't think this will prevent many deaths.
Mainly because I can't remember seeing a single accused drunk driver/killer on TV who was crying in court. (We've all heard of how they drive drunk again and again.)
If they don't care about not killing people, why would they care about any penalty?

"Anybody got a link to the new goddess TED talk?"
The TED page lists a whole buncha people I've never heard of as speakers - but does not list our Goddess!
