Ah Cervantes whose statue was vandalized in the GF riots even though he had been an actual slave. But of the non PC kind.

Going one step further, the origin of the term Latin America, from which Latina/o come, was itself a Colonialist term. It was first used by Napoleon III when he was advancing the idea that France should “protect” Mexico from the US.
His idea was that Mexico and points south were “Latin” countries, therefore shouldn’t a Latin country “protect” another Latin country. France soon invaded. It didn’t work out well for France, fortunately.
It was Imperialism, plain and simple. Iberian American would be better, I think.

And this is how the American government is going to incentivize young adult women to get pregnant:
In the meantime, circa 1990, syndicated columnist Ellen Goodman wrote:
"Perhaps when 18-year-old girls start coming home in wheelchairs and body bags, we'll begin to wonder why we think it's acceptable for 18-year-old boys to come home that way."
(Of course, one could also ask: if we got rid of the draft, so to speak, why can't we also abolish mandatory registration with Selective Service?)

Very clever observation, Sixclaws.
