Inexplicable Nora Ephron Piece
Why doesn't Ephron just photograph her toenail clippings and upload the photo to the web? The piece (on IHT.com) didn't even have a coherent headline; at 8:51 a.m. PST, it was this:

UPDATE: Ha! Kate Coe asks: "When did the IHT become HRT?"

Obviously, she's losing it. If I ever get that bad, please, somebody, just take me out back behind the dumpster and shoot me. Be kind.

I'll take a morphine and...oops...forget the other ingredient (Joe?)...cocktail, thanks.
Amy Alkon at August 13, 2007 9:36 AM
Yes, I guess that would be less messy. I'll have mine straight up. >_O

A Demerol chaser with the Morphine, Amy.

Is there an explicable Nora Ephron piece somewhere?
Jim Treacher at August 13, 2007 11:19 AM
Thanks, Joe.

You dont really have to take anything with morphine

I'm hearing a strange whooshing noise as I read these comments, sometimes very faint, sometimes louder. Yes. I recognize it now. It is the sound of the point going over many dense heads. It is the sound of more than one yahoo clapping.

> the point going over
> many dense heads.
So you can't take a moment to tell us what that point may be, or even who you're trying to insult? (Ephron? Alkon? Her commenters?)
You're no fun at all. Also, I followed the link to that blog, and most of those jazz people are no fun either.

I think he was just looking for a landing place for this attempt at a joke:
It is the sound of more than one yahoo clapping.
Uh, Yahoos clapping would make a lot of noise, genius.
Amy Alkon at August 14, 2007 5:46 AM
lujlp,
It was a joke about perfect drug cocktails when going for the big nap in a previous thread.

As a long-time journalist, when I read this piece all I could think of was: deadline drain. Obviously, Ephron (who seems to have franchised herself) overcommitted to one column too many and wrote this on empty. Mostly, her writing's spot on. But clearly she needs some time off.
