Barbarians On Our Side Of The Gate
Yet another loving Muslim father murders his daughter for not wearing a hijab. This time, in a Toronto suburb. Oh yeah, she was 16. And daddy may have been helped along by her brother.

They need to keep convicting and keep reporting on the convictions. It's got to at least on some level discourage this honor killing garbage. They seem too fanatical sometimes for convictions to deter but we need to send the message strong and clear that we won't tolerate these horrors. I'd also like to see someplace these girls could escape too just like we have the battered women's shelters. And, yes, we need to wake up to the fact that it can happen here.

It's not the father's fault that the daughter decided to disgrace the family by not covering herself. Next, you'll probably say that honor killings of raped women are wrong.

Islam = peace
Peaceful daughter, resting in peace.
Now, what's so hard to understand about that?

As much as I loath hate(thought) crime statutes perhaps it is time we start making honor killings hate crimes with extended jail time or the death penalty
lujlp at December 12, 2007 11:32 AM
Luj, a hate crime statute wouldn't do any good. In September '06, "a Saudi named Homaidan al-Turki was sentenced to twenty-seven years to life in prison for keeping a woman as a slave in his Colorado home...[His only defense was to claim]that he was a victim of anti-Muslim bias." (Religion of Peace? Robert Spencer 2007.)
I'm guessing the reason you generally loathe hate crime statutes is that they don't do any good beyond making people feel like they did something even as they erode rights for the rest of us by making the action less of a crime than the thinking that might have gone behind it.
Someone who murders their children over some tribal BS isn't going to be put off by an "infidel" law. They will find an ACLU lawyer who will get them off due to allegations of cultural insensitivity.
Amy's title is apt, the barbarian is inside the gate and we lack the will to fight him as yet.

Another ambassador for the religion of peace makes a statement.
Here's a guy from Pakistan, moved to Canada because modern information flow let him know where the money is, probably on a jet plane built in a modern, non Islamic country, he drives a cab built in same, picking up passengers who are able to support him by non-Islamic means, he lives in a modern frame house made possible by modern industrial countries, etc. In other words, almost his whole current existence relies on non Islamic means, yet he still clings to his cult of domination on the pretense that it makes life better in some way that sure escapes me.
I like this line from the link above:
".... It's natural to want answers about why this tragedy occurred, but we really don't have any of those answers yet..." one school official told students.
I wonder if this school official will ever come out and tell what happened.

If the family had not moved to Canada the girl would probably still be alive. After all, it's unlikely that she would have decided not to wear the habib if every woman around her did so.
I'm surprised that so few people publicly question the nutty immigration policies of the West. It doesn't seem to be in our best interests to take in so many immigrants from cultures that have yet to accept Western values.

**I'm surprised that so few people publicly question the nutty immigration policies of the West.**
I hear a lot of questions.
The West lacks immigration policies--we are sort of going down the 'non policy' road.
Maybe Pakistan should have an emigration policy that doesn't let whack jobs out of their country, and inflict them on the rest of the world.
But I'm afraid they have a policy of letting their whack jobs out of the country and inflicting them on the rest of the world. It is called spreading Islam.
