Old, Tired, And Pretty Damn Un-Sexy
That's how Lindsay Lohan looks in the shots Bert Stern "recreated" of his famous Marilyn shoot.
Booze and sun do bad things to a girl's face and body, even a girl in her 20's.

She only just turned 21 last year. How friggin' sad. I read somewhere that she "loves" these pictures of her - surely she doesn't think they're the least bit flattering, does she? o_O

Well, if it comes down to this, I would be available for an inspection. But I think (or have convinced myself) some of the issues are merely freckles.

How very like you, Jerry! o_O

To clean my eyes I will look at some pics of Hilary Rhoda.
My view of Lohan is I just feel there is something missing. Perhaps it's that I think she's pretty but not attractive.
PurplePen at February 29, 2008 10:31 AM
Monroe had a very different complexion than Lohan does. Lohan should have been lighted differently.
All in all Lindsay ain't bad (nice rack) but I've never been able to figure out how certain women are "chosen" by the mass media as super hot.
I see women everyday walking down the street who are every bit as beautiful as anyone I see on TV, movies or magazines.
winston at February 29, 2008 10:33 AM
I thought that in this photography collection he was attempting to create an slightly old, tortured glimpse into Marilyn's destruction, rather than flattering anyone? No?
If he was going for the other, obviously he failed.

I was a little bit disturbed by these photos. Her skin looks bad - but she still looks like a little kid trying to be a lot older (re: more sophisticated) than she actually is. The result is slightly child porn-esque.
I just can't buy that she's *sexy*. Maybe it's the freckles that make me think she's still the 12 year old in The Parent Trap?

I believe the older look was intentional, I mean he could airbrush anything he wanted. And yes they are hot. Sorry ladies, but your opinions on whether those pics are hot or not, just do not count.
Jim at February 29, 2008 1:40 PM
Jim, I think my opinion is as valid as yours especially since a naked woman doesnt give me a hard on. A freckled reluctant beauty named Veronica Zemanova is hot, and she is only known in the male dominated world of pornography. See I know both worlds, my mention of Hilary Rhoda comes from the fashion world. I think both women are beautiful but Lohan? she's just ok. Doesnt capture Monroe is any way.
PurplePen at February 29, 2008 2:09 PM
I wasn't aware these pictures were men only. Women like to look at pictures of other women. I do, especially, even though I'm physically into men. Couldn't care less about looking at pictures of men.

"Women like to look at pictures of other women."
It's curious that there is a different type of female model that appeals to each. The female models in a women's magazine have a similar look to each other, but look different than the female models in men's magazines.
winston at February 29, 2008 4:51 PM
Has anyone noticed though that Marilyn actually had HIPS, and Lohan doesn't? That Marilyn actually had an undefinable womanly sex appeal that Lohan most certainly does not? I just can't understand her as a choice to be a Marilyn stand-in.

I was stunned by them, the contrast could not be more striking. Marilyn Monroe looked healthy! Lohan doesn't have the photographic presence of Monroe either. I can't believe she's just 21.

"Couldn't care less about looking at pictures of men."
Neither do I. But I understand how some guys make some women weak at the knees. I have two nephews who were USMC pilots, and they had that effect on one or two in a crowd just when walking into a restaurant. Interestingly enough, they were both just average high-school kids. They were given an obvious edge by those gentle Miss Manners types at Quantico.
But I would not have guessed that this was Miss Lohan had I not been told. My first reaction was of dismay. I do not understand the furor around her at all - and I would not have published these pictures on a personal Web page, they are so, umm, unflattering. I think the photographer's reputation will suffer for this. Perhaps there is an intelligence visible in person, but not through media, which makes her fascinating. I have a somewhat plainer niece who has a long list of friends because of her wits, and she gets doors opened for her everywhere she goes.
Word to PurplePen: Raquel Darrian. VZ's augmentation surgery is a bit too obvious. And the most beautiful creature I've ever seen was walking across a gas station parking lot in Daytona, where she'd been participating in a local modeling shoot for Bike Week. Fortunately I was not spotted standing there in awe.
About women in general: one time I was admiring a rare collector's item at a gun show - a bargain, really, but shooting it would be out of the question for such fine work. When I mentioned to the seller that it was too fine to shoot, he said, "Ever see a woman too fine to kiss?" My reply was, "No. But I've seen a few I'd get dirty in the process."
There is a sort of mysticism going on, sometimes, when I would rather not know she gets lettuce in those teeth or those eyes get bloodshot in the sun. "Marilyn" is all you have to say to remind generations that such mystique is possible.
But, sadly, it was not shown here with Miss Lohan.
Radwaste at February 29, 2008 6:29 PM
Well Radwaste from what I remember I believe VZ is all natural, same as Rita G. I believe VZ appeared in Perfect 10 magazine, and one of the rules of the maggie was NO cosmetic surgery. But Raquel Darrian is equally attractive, in a way that Lohan lacks.
For the record I find pornography and fashion magazines boring, yet I can remember all the models that I like.
As for one of the greatest finds while in South Korea.

That "woman" is Harisu (originally born a man, and if anyone can tell that from the pic...well your powers amaze me). I think she's also a better model than Lohan.

I ment to add, and none of them are men.
PurplePen at February 29, 2008 7:04 PM
what rational skeptic said... er, kinda looks like a boy with implants...
All in all a mistake photgraphically... You have to photograph the person in front of you, not who you wish them to be. Since she isn't particularly curvy, and not cut either, you have to change the hip angle to make that curve work for you. Either Burt lost his edge, or the photo editor is worthless, or Lohan had too much to do with what was chosen. I can't imagine why she would accept these for publication. Maybe she just thinks the skin is enough, and it probably is for many, but it was a wasted opportunity...
I did actually like the high contrast b+w that actually played up the freckles, since they add a lof of interest. Makes me wonder about the images they didn't use.
SwissArmyD at February 29, 2008 11:06 PM
I love looking at naked women, and I find a lot of nudes very beautiful. But there's a definite difference between naked and nude, between photographic art and naked pictures. A few of those Lohan pictures are artful, like the pink flowers, and the white & red scarf held above her head. But most of the others are just not right. None of that, however, is her fault. The artist & artistic director are the ones who should chose the photos, and if they did a poor job of it, that's the issue. Plus, her body is not well suited for nude photographs: breasts too large and hips too narrow to be classically beautiful like Marilyn.

In my humble opinion, these pictures just don't work because Lohan is not Marilyn Monroe. It's one thing to take concepts that work and re-apply them, but in this case? No. It's that old notion of a square peg in a round hole-- she just doesn't fit.
Personally? I think Lohan looks stupid with blonde hair. She always looked best to me with darker hair, like when she first started out. But then again, I'd probably be right to say that everything about her looked better when she first started out...
