Reading, Writing, and Bowing Down To Allah
Schooling in England has changed these days. A non-Muslim boy can get detention for refusing to bow down to Allah. A Daily Mail reporter writes:
Two schoolboys were given detention after refusing to kneel down and 'pray to Allah' during a religious education lesson.Parents were outraged that the two boys from year seven (11 to 12-year-olds) were punished for not wanting to take part in the practical demonstration of how Allah is worshipped.
They said forcing their children to take part in the exercise at Alsager High School, near Stoke-on-Trent - which included wearing Muslim headgear - was a breach of their human rights.
A parent, Karen Williams, told the reporter:
"I haven't got a problem with them teaching my child other religions and a small amount of information doesn't do any harm."But not only did they have to pray, the teacher had gone into the class and made them watch a short film and then said 'we are now going out to pray to Allah'.
"Then two boys got detention and all the other children missed their refreshment break because of the teacher.
"Not only was it forced upon them, my daughter was told off for not doing it right.
"They'd never done it before and they were supposed to do it in another language."
"My child has been forced to pray to Allah in a school lesson." The grandfather of one of the pupils in the class said: "It's absolutely disgusting, there's no other way of putting it.
If you really want kids to understand Islam, a religion which has a holy book that commands Muslims to convert or kill all of us infidels, perhaps you should have them strap on belts of explosives. Or go out in the courtyard and slaughter all the homosexuals in the employ of the school. Or teach them that a woman has only half the value of a man, or how Mohammed married his wife at 6 and had sex with her when she was 9, and how anything Mohammed did is considered by Muslims to be holy and right. There's so much to learn about Islam, and so little of it is at all in tune with Enlightenment values.

It was just a link, but I think this was Reynolds' best post of the week.

BTW, about eight years ago, there was this shabby piece of art in the Anderson (modern) wing where seven burka'd females sat silently in front of a bunch of photos of old white men who made the world go 'round. Does anyone remember this piece? 2nd floor, center gallery. I'd bet it's been gone for awhile because of [A] political correctness and [B] even as an instrument of sarcasm, it was behind the times.

Hilarious (the link you posted above).
I did like how he got into the link to this story I posted:

Whoops, talking about LACMA, can't find it online though

I'd like to be a fly on the wall the week they study Judaism. What would be the reaction of the Muslim parents to their children wearing a yarmulke and praying to Yahweh?

I won't go so far as Reynolds but I can't help but think that historians will make note of the perverse marriage between Radical Islam and the Politically Correct Multicult Liberal Social Activists.
I need to get into the head of one of the latter one day but heretofore have not been able to figure any out.

Apparently it's already been tried several times. Here's one instance I found:

Public schools will try anything in the name of diversity and tolerance. If you protest, you're labeled a promoter of hate. You're no longer allowed to defend or raise your own kids at your own discretion.

I really like what this guy has to say about Islam:

This week in muslim outrage:
A postcard featuring a cute puppy sitting in a policeman's hat advertising a Scottish police force's new telephone number has sparked outrage from Muslims.
Tayside Police's new non-emergency phone number has prompted complaints from members of the Islamic community.
The advert has upset Muslims because dogs are considered ritually unclean and has sparked such anger that some shopkeepers in Dundee have refused to display the advert. Dundee councillor Mohammed Asif said: 'My concern was that it's not welcomed by all communities, with the dog on the cards.

Wow. Well, I'm glad I'm in backwards texas. My kids will sure get yanked out of a school that tries that crap. I'd rather them learn creationism than that!!
momof3 at July 6, 2008 3:33 PM
For the record, Momof3, the rest of America is counting on Texas to show some backbone about this. When they make fun of your accents they're whistling in the dark

I haven't followed the link but that's because I make a habit of not reading the Daily Mail if at all possible.
It's kind of like Fox News but in newspaper format. Not that I'm saying it didn't happen, it probably did, chunks of this country are PC to the Nth degree but I would take anything published in the Daily Hate with a pinch of salt.
Much as I would not implicitly trust those fine upstanding reporters at Fox to not have any bias.

So, I just went and emailed of a lot of protest letters on this, to the white house and department of education and virginia governer and the ACLU and the county that happened in. I'm not much of an armchair activist but hey, that's just ridiculous. And if no one tells them so, they'll think they're just super-enlightened!
I don't really think texas is backward. At least not more than the rest of the country/world. At least we aren't-that I KNOW of-enacting sactuary-city laws. Not that that has any relevance on tehe current topic.

This story is certainly repugnant, but it's worth noting that "Allah" is not a separate entity from the Christian or Jewish deities. Allah is merely the Arabic name for God, the equivalent of Jehovah in Hebrew. So while forcing any child to pray in school is unacceptable, there's no need to taint this independently outrageous story with anti-Muslim sentiment.

" Of Englande folk, one thynge is certan:
Dying by theyr own thousande cuts,
The Englande folk are folking nuts."
So ends the tale of the Ass-Hatte - Iowahawk in a Chaucer parody on the Archibishop of Canterbury and all the politically correct bowing to Islam that has mystifyingly gripped the UK (such overweening appeasement from the people who stood up to Hitler when Europe fell - why?). To read the whole brilliant piece go to: http://iowahawk.typepad.com/iowahawk/2008/02/heere-bigynneth.html
I promise you won't be disappointed!

CB - These kids were forced to bow, wear special muslim headgear and pray in another launguage. Explain how they could have been praying to any god please.

CB, you fucking kidding me or what? It was a Muslim rite and who's demanding we "respect" their religion to that extent! I find out my grandson was subject to this, they will hear from my ass even though they think I have no legal right to bitch (not being his parent/guardian). momof3, this grandmotherof1 is with you! We've got to speak up if just to keep them from riding roughshod over us.
Donna (T's Grammy) at July 10, 2008 7:58 AM
To Lindsey - they weren't praying to "any god," they were praying to the single deity who is worshipped by Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Whether you choose to call that deity God, Jehovah, Yahweh, or Allah, it's still the same entity. The three main monotheistic religions of the world all share a common textual history and worship the same god. Assuming that you are Christian or Jewish, you pray to the very same God that Muslims do.
I agree that forcing a child to pray, in ANY language, and wear ANY religious headgear for a school activity is a very bad thing - whether you'd like to call it "independently outrageous" or "just plain sick and wrong," that's fine. What I don't get is why the fact that it was a Muslim ceremony would make it any more offensive than a Jewish or Christian or Hindu rite. A child should not be forced to participate in a religious ceremony of any variety by a public school.
CB at July 10, 2008 2:25 PM
Given that the muslim God commands his followers to slay everyone who does not kneel before him, I'd say that makes him the antithesis of the Christian God.
Which would make Allah, that's right, kids, SaaaaTAN!
brian at July 10, 2008 3:47 PM
Brian, you're simply incorrect. Feel free to read the Bible, particularly the Old Testament, if you're interested in understanding why.
