My Concern: Will Qualified People Dominate The Cabinet?
Will the new Secretary of the Interior have ovaries? I couldn't care less. Which is as it should be. But, Lisa Lerer writes for Politico of women still seeking "equality" by demanding preferential treatment:
'I agree with those who are concerned that it would have been nice to see more women,' said Kim Gandy.Early indications that men might dominate the hierarchy of Obama administration have women's groups worried, even as a growing chorus of advisers reportedly pushes Hillary Rodham Clinton for secretary of state.
"There's definitely been a reaction to the few groups that have been named so far," said Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women. "I agree with those who are concerned that it would have been nice to see more women."
Women's rights advocates acknowledge it's still early in the transition process, but they say early staff picks and the lists of rumored Cabinet nominees send the wrong signal.
What "wrong signal"? That they are trying not to discriminate based on sex? That they might hire a white guy if he happens to be the best black/native American, disabled woman for the job?
And then there's this, from later in the piece:
Last week, Linda Basch, president of the National Council for Research on Women, wrote an open letter to Obama urging the president-elect to consider gender equality when making appointments.
I urge Obama to do the same. Again, by hiring the very best person for the job.

Gandy & Co. reportedly got very cheesed off when Larry Summers name was floated for Sec. of Treasury.

It's not discrimination if your particular group gets to pick on the basis of race or gender or whatever. It's only discrimination when others do it...

There's a real shitstorm a-comin' people, and it won't be pretty...
I wouldn't want Shrillary to be my dog's secretary, never mind secretary of State. I already got a mommy and so do my kids. We don't need another one, especially one who will have more power than she knows what to do with. Obaba will be makin' nice with the imams, and she'll be making the tea. Fuckin' lovely. o.O

Flynne: Much as I hate to say it, I think she's the best option available that has a possibility of being picked. Yeah, I know, but...I'd rather have her than John Kerry.
And yeah, I agree, this is all related to the Summers thing. Sigh.

Every time I hear someone from a "Woman's Rights Group" talking about discrimination, I always wonder why they don't seems to care about the amazing lack of men in daycare centers...

My personal preference is to have liberal women as far from power as possible. The only women who have been shown to know how to handle power have been conservatives.
Compare: Lady Thatcher and Nancy Pelosi
Which exerted her power reasonably and judiciously, and which was an overbearing twat?
In my (limited) experience, "feminist" women (that is, acolytes of Gandy and her predecessors) make the absolute worst bosses.

Well yeah, but there are qualified women. Plenty of them. Obama just isn't looking there, and the men he's mentioned are not stellar. The man is sexist. It's so obvious, the way he talks. "I think I have lots to offer the ladies, in terms of healthcare and education....." was particularly condescending I thought. Why are my concerns different than any Americans, sex organs be damned?
But, better a crappy man than another Pelosi, no doubt.

I just that Clinton has just accepted the Secretary of State position. Oh that's just ducky. The most grating person in American poltics is now America's representatve to the world.
