Great Technology, No Plug
Support Amy in the wake of the downturn in newspapers by buying some of the really great stuff on sale at Amy's Mall, like this butter bell, in the "Amy's Gadgets" section. I discovered this thing in France, bought it off Amazon here in Yankeeland (where it comes in various colors):
It's a fantastic innovation. You keep butter in it, in the smaller cup part, and then, fill the larger cup part with water, and it makes a water seal over the butter. This means that the butter keeps...without being refrigerated, and not just for a day but for weeks and even months. Try it -- you'll never have to use a cudgel on your butter again to get it to spread on your toast in the morning.

Which part sits on which?

How perfect, I was just wondering if there was a way to do this. I'll enjoy filling it with Parma butter :-)

I was watching a morning news show -- one of the consumer guru's was saying that the trick to keeping sour cream, apple sauce, etc from going bad was to make sure that you had a good seal on the lid, and then store it upside down.
It creates a vacuum in the empty area and stops the bacterial process.
Seems to work.

It's not cat proof.

I don't know what you're doing to your butter, but I just keep mine in a butter dish on the counter, and it never goes bad.
Or do you buy unsalted butter?

It's butter made with the milk used for Parmesan cheese (the real Italian kind). I get it at Fresh and Easy, if you have those in LA.
Organic Valley Pasture butter is great too.
You can tell I'm kind of into butter.

I adore my butter-bell. Always speadable-yum!

Yeah, I just keep mine in a dish on the counter too and it keeps fine. I use it pretty fast though. :)

Amazon reviewers are 2 to 1 against

I'm a sucker for kitchen stuff and I hate hard butter.
Unfortunately, I would have to cut too far into my book allowance to buy one now. On the upside, I do go to Amazon through your handy link, so most of the purchases I make with those funds are moving in the right direction. Although I don't think the used books I often buy count...

No Plug!? Really. But you are plugging it!
Still good luck!

Innovation? I see these by the dozen from ceramics people at craft shows for years here in the Pacific Northwest. They are as common as dirt. Not to mention you can buy similar if not red ones at an Kitchen Connection store.
They're as common as dirt. Good luck with the store, hope you sell lots of stuff though. The way newspapers both free press types and regular pay types are going, you are gonna have to start charging access here.

"It's not cat proof. "
And that, people, is why I store my mice in one of these:
