Harry Potter, Tool Of Zion
When you forget that the Muslim whack jobs have a Quran-based mandate to kill or convert the infidel (and that the Quran is to be taken literally), they can be pretty hilarious. On his Times of London blog, Daniel Finkelstein pulls quotes from a documentary shown December 15th on the Iranian News Channel, IRINN:
Its theme is how the Jews, battling for world supremacy, are using Harry Potter as a tool.Sample quote:
The Harry Potter film series reached the cinema following the success of the Zionist propaganda machine which made this little known author and her book famous......It can be viewed as a compilation of secrets and of theories used by the Zionist media.....And then there is this observation:
The Zionists support Harry Potter because he is the promised Messiah.
And I was starting to think it was one of The Jonas Brothers.
via Kate Coe

The Zionists support Harry Potter because he is the promised Messiah.
I was greatly miffed while reading book seven to learn he is not our promised Messiah, but more a wan Jesus metaphor.

Of course, the post was followed by the inevitable "yes, the Iranian government are nuts but there are people just as nuts in America and the UK" comments. But there were only a couple of those.
Now, Ms. Alkon, did you mean the Jonas Brothers were the Messiah, or part of the Zionist Cospiracy? Either way, I've probably got to warn my youngest daughter.

Yes, we're beheading people on every street corner. Also, we might elect idiots, but we don't elect sociopaths.

Well, now Jesus is dating Madonna, you know.

This is the nation that Obama wants to talk to with no preconditions
Iran is run by a bunch of batshit fucking loco motherfuckers who want to build a nuclear bomb to solve "the Jewish problem".
Why does anyone think that they can be bargained with?
And why do people insist on dealing with every piece of news that proves the insanity of the Iranian regime by saying "well we've got crazy people here too, you know"?
Bobby Jindal believing in young-earth creationism is fucking meaningless next to a suicide cult convinced they need to wipe out the Jews to make God come home.

I thought Harry Potter was satanist? You know with all the witchcraft and stuff.

To be fair, one of the commenters (a Quentin Langley) pointed out that goofballs like these are not running our governments, nor would they be able to have their documentaries broadcast over our mass media. My favorite comment was from Harry Pottervich:
It is well known fact that when Harry Pottervich shouts oi vey with gefilte in hand it hand it summons Voldermortski and his hoard of IDF minions.
Who knew? And the Jonas Brothers' real names? Joe, Nick, and Kevin are really named Menachem, Shmuel, and Itzach Rothschild. If that doesn't scream conspiracy, I don't know what does.

Well, Harry Potter is significantly influenced by Christian mythology/beliefs - not at the level that the _Chronicles of Narnia_ are, but still fairly significantly. Death is only the beginning of another journey, those who seek to avoid death at all costs corrupt themselves and others, a savior will end the threat of evil, etc. etc. Heck, there's even a quote from the Bible that plays a prominent role in the last book. I think, though, that the Iranians are just jealous that JK Rowling didn't have to threaten to behead anyone to get them to read her work. (BTW, somewhere on the Internets is the Commencement speech she gave at Harvard in June 2008. Well worth listening to for a variety of reasons, not least that she is very funny.)
Bobby Jindal believing in young-earth creationism
Gah. This annoys my Papist soul to the core, because Catholics aren't supposed to buy into the Creationist/anti-evolution movement, and Jindal is Catholic. I wish he'd find another way to pander that didn't involve trashing Darwin, especially given that the Church just held a conference on the subject in which intelligent design was discussed only as a "cultural phenomenon" while actual scientists discussed evolution and the like.

Fastest way to turn a young-Earth creationist into a sputtering mess:
"If the Earth is only six thousand years old, how do you explain historical records in China that are at least 7,000 years old? Is God lying to you about something?"

Well, if you go by T, he is. Along with Pac-Man and Spiderman. T's personal trinity. Wait, sacrilege. I forgot Lightning McQueen. Four (in his 5yo eyes) superbeings, not 3? Sacrilege!
I've got to admit I like Harry. Or did. Whole series left me cold when she killed off Dumbledore, who I just loved, and had Snape turn out to be a bad guy after all. I liked Snape. I thought he was the reverse of the devil in disguise, a good guy that seemed mean but was really covering Harry's back while seeing to it that he became the best wizard he could be. I never picked up another book. (Though I did buy a video game.)
From what's said above, doesn't sound like I'm missing much. Not if they got that Christer. And, no, I didn't find the early books so. I did find them rather Wiccan.

Harry Potter's not a story. It's real.
