Smokin' Pot
My friend Annie took me to an opening the other night for Frank Bauer, a really nice guy who used to be in advertising in Milwaukee, but told me he got into tile art after he tiled his fireplace back in cold country.
Bauer forms, fires, glazes and refires every tile. Here are photos of how he works.
I really liked his stuff out on display, but there are pictures of pieces I like even better at his site, like the one of this pillow chair. Here's the link to various photos of his work. Some really gorgeous pieces in there.
I've always loved the look of tile and mosaic, and also have a thing for paintings made up of tiny squares of paint, like my old Noho, NYC neighbor Chuck Close's.

He should do a display of the Ten Commandments.
That could be titled "Mosaic Law."

The shot I took really doesn't do justice to his work, but it got dark fast, and I think his work sells pretty well, so he really didn't have much of it there. He's the nicest guy, and I think he just wanted to have a party (the people he invited seemed mostly to be people like Annie, who makes science documentaries, and me. We both love his work but can't afford to do more than look at it...that is, unless the Advice Goddess web TV show we're doing together takes off! In progress...we're shooting the promo to present the show to advertisers on Friday).

Awesome pot! Also, I love the hydrangea in it. I have a big bush of those in my side yard. Love 'em!
Amy, good luck with the promo! I'm rootin' for ya! o.O

Thank you so much. I'm really thrilled and Annie is an amazing producer -- great taste, great person, a real pro -- and so is the exec producer and the guy behind the company that's producing this. After years and years of dealing with Hollyweasels, this seems to be a dream team, no exaggeration.
