Red Sky At Night
Better late than never -- photos from the LA Press Club Awards a few weeks ago. I got a second place for my column and a first place for my headline "From Beer To Eternity."
Above we have my friends French journo Emmanuelle Richard, now writing mainly for Madame Figaro, and former Angeleno Nancy Rommelmann, who took first in both the LA Press Club Awards and the alt weekly awards for her JT Leroy/Laura Albert piece in the LA Weekly.
Nancy and I posed for our lesbian closeup here:

Congratulations!

I am disappointed. In your story about your pink Rambler, you say your boobs are big. Here, they look small. And your left arm looks a tad emaciated.

Hi Amy, as a long-time reader and general admirer, I am not disappointed at all. You look as sexy as always, if not sexier.
Great looks, and great attitude! Congratulations...

Hey, the book cover could be photoshopped, anything. Boob jobs are cheap in Thailand, and very high quality, and you get vacation thrown into the mix.
The Jewish mother in me wants you to eat more. Zaftig is the new svelte.

Stuff like this almost makes me wish I'd gone into journalism instead of engineering. Almost.

Sheesh, how much chin-down/bedroom-eyes sex actually happens in the alt-media business?

Congrats! You do look skinny here. can you share the camera angle with me?? :) I could use a little help right now...

I only have one question: Did the poor cameraman survive? Or did he drop dead from all his blood abruptly rushing to his manhood?
Why doesn't anyone have any sympathy for the poor dead cameraman in these types of photos? Sheesh!
Stick at July 1, 2009 7:57 AM
Ah, I see the cameraman was a camerawoman. Explains her survival, no abrupt blood loss to the brain.
Perhaps we would lose less cameramen if they used women in these situations...

Awww...I think baby exhaustion will help! And I do always recommend the very low carb way of eating! (Carbs, per Gary Taubes seven-year investigation, are what cause you to put on fat.)
Me yesterday (sans hunger): Cheese omelet for breakfast, two strips of bacon.
Cheese and Trader Joe 4 percent fat cottage cheese when I got hungry during my writing day or wanted a snack in the late evening.
Big breast of chicken for lunch (basted with olive oil, with garlic tucked under the skin).
Wilted arugula salad with mustard balsamic vinaigrette and crumbled hamburger on top (reheated in the microwave for a minute then dumped on the salad warm to make it wilt).
Mustard balsamic: Throw olive oil in a jar. Throw in balsamic. Put in a spoonful of mustard, a bit of salt and a bit of pepper. Shake.

First of all, if you'd read Taubes, you'd know that the chain of evidence for high cholesterol being the cause of heart disease just isn't there. But, actually, my numbers are typically what's considered very good to incredible.
I also just started taking 5,000 iu of Vitamin D. I'm going to get tested in a couple months. My friend N was also taking 5,000 iu, and got tested, and he came out low. He's Northern Italian.
Not a big vitamin popper, though. Just take calcium and magnesium besides the D. And a bit of fish oil, tested to be mercury free or very low mercury by...FISO? I think it's called.

Life is to short to be squandered on bullshitters, even the popular, trophy-bearing pros.
