Incoherent Reader Rant Of The Week
It's actually too boring to print, but I was amused by the ending:
BTW, I believe that Wanda Sykes is funny. You are not funny. (but thems my unedumacated umpinnion, ya see?)
I wrote back:
Be sure to walk up to people in the grocery store and tell them they're unattractive. I'm sure it will brighten their day.
I always suspect people who write me letters and e-mail like this would never have the balls to say so much as boo to me or anyone else in public.

Ontopic- What's the funniest thing Wanda Sykes ever said? What made her famous?
Offtopic- If some reasonably friendly person here has Google wave too, shoot me an email, I want to try stuff out.

How do people know that things are credited through your Amazon account after it hands off to the buyer's Amazon account? (Is that a clear question?)

Gregg and I tested this early on -- and when I order stuff, it shows up. So, I'm pretty sure it's working.
P.S. Somebody yesterday ordered a butter keeper and $196 worth of vitamin softgels! Among other things. Just looked!

I've been trying to catch up on your blog, but this caught my attention and made me laugh. You have to love people with no life other than to email you stupid stuff insulting you. Oh to think of all the positive ways that energy could have been spent. As far as meeting you in person, I had to laugh. I love your column, your blog, etc, but I have to admit I'd feel intimidated to meet you in person. And I mean that as a compliment!

But... Wanda Sykes ISN'T funny!
ahw at November 4, 2009 7:13 AM
Amy, I don't get this one. I know who Wanda Skyes is, but I never heard her routine. Does she mostly do insult comedy?
KarenW at November 4, 2009 7:40 AM
Wanda Sykes was funny when I first saw her 15-20 years ago as a stand up. She is so not funny now, something I just realized by watching her latest HBO special. Excuse me, tried to watch.
Now she's just a black lesbian with an agenda. There is nothing funny about that.

If you look at the URL, the tag "advicegoddess-20" is preserved throughout the process; when you hit the confirm screen, it phones home to Amazon to let them know that she should receive the affiliate credit.

I clicked the link Amy posted from a few days ago, the software deals at Amazon, and I don't see anything in the URL that looks like advicegoddess code. Does that mean Amy doesn't get credit for the click-through and purchase?

There is a ref code in those links, but I don't see the advicegoddess tag that is present in her other links. So she may not; however, I'm not certain that tag is the only way to do things in Amazon. I know web analytics and tracking, but not their system specifically.
Amazon is legendary for the detail with which they track user behavior and constantly experiment to increase the probability that you get to that checkout process, so they may have different paths to accomplishing the same thing.

Amy-
I am just curious b/c I have a Kindle subscription to your blog...Do you get anything for that? I know it is only a $1 a month, but if it helps you at all I will keep it.
sheepmommy at November 4, 2009 10:37 AM
Amy,
That someone may not find you funny is not really an insult. Remember, the fun in more subtle and sophisticated forms of humor can only be enjoyed by the relatively intelligent. Not everyone "gets it."
So, don't let it get ya' down, kiddo! These "attacks" you receive are really just self-portraits of the person sending them.
Jay R at November 4, 2009 11:27 AM
Thanks - you guys are all so sweet to think of me on the Amazon stuff. If you click through one Advicegoddess-20, the rest get credited to me, but it will no longer show up in the URL. And yes, I see your Kindle subscription, and thank you!
Regarding this:
"I have to admit I'd feel intimidated to meet you in person. And I mean that as a compliment!"
Awww...I love people, except for the rude ones, and I'm very friendly!

The biggest Amazon purchase made through my site was a $247 scooter. But the best selling item month to month is a fart contest mp3 for .89 for which I make 10 cents on every order.
Google "International Crepitation Contest" to get more details. My blog article should show up on top. If you do order a copy of the contest, I'll donate all the commissions for the mp3 (until Christmas day) to Amy.
