Believing In Being Dad, Not In God
A dad gets his custody cut substantially because he doesn't believe in god:
He says he has "never imposed (his) belief system on the kids." Well, there's a pity. Every kid should learn to think rationally and not just suck down beliefs just because they're told to.
Unless there's evidence that some parent believes in physically or otherwise abusing their children, no judge has any business taking them away or dialing back custody.
It's really pretty amazing that evidence of rational thought is the devil here.

I dont see why he cant sue the judge personally for violating his civil rights

Maybe his kids will learn about the tyranny against rational thought from their father's experience.

Something tells me that the mother is either a religious nut job or trying to be vindictive.
And I wonder if the mother was atheist/agnostic and dad was the one pushing religion how it would have gone?
Either way this should have no real bearing on the custody of the children.

That judge needs to be removed from the bench.

I was disgusted watching this report! Not only has this man's civil rights been trampled, but what about the rights of the children? We in this country too frequently use the "it's for the children" excuse--but we don't really mean it. This christianist woman and judge think what they are doing is for the children, no doubt, but if they truly had the kids' best interests at heart they wouldn't be interfering with the kids' relationships with the father!
How about he sues for full custody on the grounds that his ex-wife is a controlling, vindictive, hateful, superstitious woman bent on "alienating affections?"

Any excuse to take away a man's children is allowed in America.
The public perception of men, that aren't involved with their children, is that the men don't want to be involved with their children.
It never occurs to people how many men have their children taken away from them for no other reason than a vindictive ex.
No one keeps track of that statistic.

That'd be awesome.
But rejecting God isn't the same as being rational (and I say this as a lifelong atheist, mind you).
I've seen people be atheists for "reasons" that I wouldn't use to wrap fish, let alone base a worldview on.
(Similarly, I've seen very, very rational believers in various Deities.
And of course a good number of rational atheists and irrational believers in Gods.)
Atheism and reason/rationality are not synonymous.
(Sadly, I'm not sure they're even correlated, based on limited sampling from the internet.)

This makes no sense.
If somebody calls him or herself an atheist because they think it's cool, well, I wouldn't respect that. But, atheism isn't exactly the path of the least resistance.
Furthermore, there's nothing rational about believing in god unless god has visited you and handed you a ham sandwich or you otherwise have evidence for god's existence. There is none. Wanting to believe in god, feeling there must be some entity that god all this started, none of that qualifies as evidence, sorry.

Amy, if someone came up to you and said God gave them a ham sandwich, you would likely not believe that individual, no matter how good that sandwich is.

They may be rational about certain things, but if they believe in gods, it is not based on reason but rather faith. Reason is the faculty which identifies and integrates the material provided by man’s senses. It is man’s only means of perceiving reality, his only source of knowledge. Tell me which of man's five senses can detect a god?
