ATT's Don't Text While Driving Documentary
Do you really need to read or send that text while going 55 mph or more? You're taking your eyes off the road, and that can be devastating to you or that bicyclist who goes through your windshield because you text "LOL" to your friend:

Way back in 2006, a gal was downloading a ringtone while driving on a country road here in Illinois, not far from here, http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/t-249365.html and she mowed down and killed a bicyclist. It was a senseless tragedy. Legislation was set in motion after that. More legislation has been put forth since then, and I hope it helps!

Legislation only helps the county fill its coffers with cash. You'll note they never charge these people who kill while texting or whatever with real crimes, like negligent homicide.

Speaking of over-lawmaking...we already have laws on the books regarding reckless driving. Do we need more?
In Joanne's example, the driver could have been intoxicated, distracted by a passenger, switching the radio, or fell asleep at the wheel. Should we enact additional laws to cover those situations?

I like the shock therapy approach:

Isn't there already a law to cover driving while intoxicated?

Australia has had some hard hitting commercials for about 20 yrs. I have no idea if legislation is effective... but awareness is really needed. There may be some utility in having a good visual of what an accident is really like (unlike the movies where the hero seems to survive):

Eric & Ian - Great videos. I posted those on FB.
What I really love is seeing people posting on Facebook, while driving, to complain about other drivers.
