A Little Perspective From Claire Berlinski
The Turkey-dwelling Berlinski writes:
If you're told over and over that the Obama is a radical left-winger and the Tea Partiers are radical right-wingers, when you hear the words, "radical" applied to the Muslim Brotherhood, you'll intuitively reach for what you know, which just isn't that radical. America has no real extremes. Everyone here is a moderate. The radicals are either in Supermax prisons or mental hospitals.

Wait, so Obama isn't a communist bent on destroying the U.S.?

No, he is a socialist with a severe cognitive dissonance between what he speaks and the effects his policies have on the economy, business, and the country.

Oh, he is a communist hell bent on destroying the US. That's not an extreme view on the left in this country, and hasn't been since 1968.

Funny. A friend of mine said, from the start, that Obama was nothing but a Republican.
And, interestingly, the well-known conservative lawyer/writer Ben Stein practically said as much, quite recently!

There's a wide gulf between "Republican" and conservative.
Mitt Romney is a "Republican" but he's no conservative.
George W Bush, Mike Hucakbee, John McCain... the list goes on and on.
If you want a non-charged word to describe Obama, he is a statist. He thinks (as do all the men listed above) that government is more well suited to making decisions than individuals.
The difference between them is the underlying economic and social policies they support to get there.
Bush favored less economic and more social control. Huckabee favors more of both. Obama does too, but the social controls he seeks are different than Huckabee's.
Obama's primary worldview has been shaped by radical Communists, which is why he believes and acts the way he does.

All those politicians who believe "that government is more well suited to making decisions than individuals" once the right people are in charge (read: "people like them, of course- not you") need individuals to elect them to office in order to implement their grand plans.
Here is the paradox, though- if individuals are smart enough to be able to elect the right people, they're smart enough to make their own decisions about how to run their lives. And if they're not smart enough to make their own decisions in the first place, they certainly won't be able to figure out who the right people are who should make the decisions for them.

To get back on topic -- My limited experience with foriegn countries, and second hand stories -- most of the local police will either beat you down on the spot or arrest you. Not both.
If you read the entry -- she mention how safe she feels in the U.S. She's right in that. We just need to find a way so it doesn't perish from the earth.
