That's a sweet story! I remember a great aunt I had, who died in 1980, following a stroke. She had married a South Dakota bachelor farmer after she was already in her 30s or maybe 40s, and was 69 when she passed away. Her husband, now a widower, kicked around for a couple of years, but finally wound up marrying his late wife's sister, who had been a widow herself since 1939!
Oddly enough, my aforementioned great aunt was sister to my maternal grandfather, and the great uncle was the brother of my maternal grandmother, so I guess these South Dakota farm families knew each other pretty well!
