An "Act Of God" Versus An Act Of Man
See the difference here, at Classically Liberal.
As Sam Harris has pointed out, and as Heather Mac Donald pointed out recently, people credit god when the 3-year-old hospitalized for some terrible illness lives, but they don't say god is a bastard when the 3-year-old is kidnapped, molested and murdered. Hmmm.

Well, there's that song, "Sonny Boy."
Something about the angels grew lonely, took you because they were lonely, now I'm lonely too, Sonny boy.
Sure, it's only a song, but it certainly speaks about a genuine loss and the emotional wrestling afterward, which are true human experiences.
So, maybe we don't call God a rat-bastard, but I don't think it can rightly be claimed that the religious only worship the God of Happy Days and not the great PMS-er of the Old Testament.

Plenty of people rail against God when tragedy occurs. Heck my cousin has railed against God and the church because he thinks its somehow God's not looking out for him that got him put on probation and evicted. (Not paying rent and stealing his ex girlfriend's TV and computer apparently has nothing to do with those situations). There was that imam not too long ago who said earthquakes were being caused by women dressed indecently. There was the jackass who's name I can't remember that claimed 9/11 was divine punishment. Phelps and the WBC praise God for all the horrible things that happen to our soldiers because God is allegedly punishing the wicked US.
People will blame God that their kid died in a wreck a drunk driver survived, for their business failing, for their lives failing, for diseases striking them, and children being kidnapped and murdered. But I imagine it doesn't make it in the news as much because papers are terrified of complaint letters.

Comedian Jeff Stilson has a great bit about football players--how they thank God for the good stuff like touchdowns but nobody ever says things like "Jesus made me fumble."
Much funnier when he explains it.

Also is it an act of God that the child was sick in the first place? Blame the devil, credit God. Childish dreams.

Thought of another example. Jesus on the cross asking why God has forsaken him.
Well, that's God lamenting God for something horrible.

My question is if god is god, why can he only have one son?

Also if god is god then why would he ask himself to spare himself the torture he had set up for himself and then tell himself nevermind?

"My question is if god is god, why can he only have one son?"
You've hit on the means of exposing something lots of people do NOT want to hear - that when they talk about God™ or Jesus™, they are REALLY talking about the Bible™ - which is neither God not Jesus.
