Why Isn't Michael Moore's Money "A National Resource"?
More from MooreExposed:
Michael Moore is a paradox. A millionaire who boasts of wealth as proving his value -- "I'm a millionaire, I'm a multi-millionaire. I'm filthy rich. You know why I'm a multi-millionaire? 'Cause multi-millions like what I do. That's pretty good, isn't it?"He lives in a million-dollar apartment, and boasts of that as well. "I walk among them. I live on the island of Manhattan, a three-mile-wide strip of land that is luxury home and corporate suite to America's elite..... Those who run your life live in my neighborhood. I walk in the streets with them each day" (Michael Moore, Stupid White Men, p. 51). For vacations, he keeps another million-dollar beachfront house in Michigan.
...He sends his child to a private school -- no sense associating with the working class -- and has some trouble associating with them himself. The New York Post reported on a tantrum he threw in London: "Then, on his second-to-last night, [Michael Moore] raged against everyone connected with the Roundhouse and complained that he was being paid a measly $750 a night. 'He completely lost the plot,' a member of the stage crew told the London Evening Standard. 'He stormed around all day screaming at everyone, even the 5 pound-an-hour bar staff, telling them how we were all con men and useless. Then he went on stage and did it in public.' At his last appearance, staffers refused to work or even open the theater's doors." NY Post, Jan. 8, 2003.
He supplements his meager income with speaking tours. No more $750 gigs; on his 2004 pre-election tour he charged Utah Valley State College $40,000, Xavier $25,000, and University of New Mexico $35,000. Not bad for an hour or two's work. Ah, the joys of capitalism....

I wonder what he would say the day that congress passed a law that any money over $1m is the governments? What about $250K?

I actually met more kids from diverse socio-economic backgrounds when I switched to private school, because private schools have scholarship kids, whereas suburbs tend to have a narrow socio-economic range for the whole town (except METCO kids who tend to self-segregate)

I wonder if Mr. Moore is tracking his daily movements, and remitting to NYC the taxes they insist upon? I have heard that if you have an apartment in NYC, you are now automatically a full-time resident, and all of your income is now taxable.
I don't have a problem with millionaires -- just liars.

Wait, what? Micheal Moore is a hypocryte?
Will wonders never cease, next you'll be telling us that ice is made of water

It was always Moore's ambition to be an apparatchik. That's apparent now. His prior (long time ago), somewhat respectable history as a rabble-rouser was only to establish his leftist cred. Once he was accepted into the club, he became a complete tool. Now he makes his living on the backs of students who are forced to contribute their activity fees to support Moore's lifestyle.

I'm pretty damn left-leaning, but this guy is a straight up communist. The thing that gets me about him is that I tend to agree with him for about two seconds, and then he goes off the rails -- completely throwing aside any credibility.
I agree that the wealthy shouldn't be bitching so damn much about what I see as a reasonable tax rate. The Bush tax cuts really need to go back to 1990s levels. Should private wealth be considered a national resource? Sort of, but not really.
whistleDick at March 5, 2011 9:24 AM
wDick - I do not know who you deem wealthy, but I do not hear the wealthy "bitching so damn much." The wealthy I know do not need to bitch because they can afford it.
"Should private wealth be considered a national resource? Sort of, but not really."
Dude! That is a very strange statement.

The answer you're looking for there is: "No."
The government didn't do anything to earn it. Nor did the crack-whore down the street. I spent my time learning how to be a good system administrator. I risked everything I had to start a business. I did the work of courting and convincing customers to trust their very business in my hands.
And now you want someone else to have a claim on the fruits of my risk and labor simply because I have earned it?
No.
I will decide who is deserving of my charity. I will decide who is worthy of my business. Everyone else is free to do what I have done.
Make yourself valuable or take what scraps are offered to you and be grateful.
You only see 25%-39.6% as a reasonable tax rate because you don't work 60 hour weeks to make the kind of money that gets taxed at that rate.

Chirstopher Hitchens nicely lays out why Moore is a fraud, and stupid to boot.

Michael Moore is a national resource. If someone shoved a hose up his ass, you'd have an endless supply of natural gas.
Martin at March 5, 2011 1:39 PM
Wait, what? Micheal Moore is a hypocryte?
lujlp,
I think you misspelled "hypocryte"
Shouldn't it be hippo-crite? As in "Kill crites."
Jim P. at March 5, 2011 9:46 PM
No my money is not a national fucking resource. I spend hours a day after a full time job doing investment research, communicating with my contractors to build a business and a revenue stream that will allow me to eventually leave my current job. Its the fruit of my labor, not Uncle Sam's personal fucking piggy bank. If you want to give the government more money, write the check out of your own fucking account.
And dick, check the numbers, the top earners in the U.S. pay way out of proportion to everybody else. How much of the budget should every person actually be responsible for bearing? Its beyond ridiculous.
If I build a hit product and make 40 million why the hell should I give up a quarter of it to hand over to people who didn't earn it?
The government has to many fingers in to many pies it has no business touching, and its sucking up to much of our income to do it.
