Easy with the dickish generalizations, Jim P. I'm pretty damn liberal and I have a major problem with almost every religion, except Buddhism and The Church of the Subgenius (praise "Bob"). You're not offering anything useful except those typical talking points and limbaugh-esque buzzwords. These phallus worshipping religions like Islam and Christianity have had their foot on the neck of women since they were cooked up by stone age superstitious inebriated infantile minds. And not much has changed over the years. Especially in their ideas about gender. The Vatican says only a priest with a willy can magically turn bread into the actual flesh of an old dead Jewish guy, which for some reason people like to eat. Imagine what happens to people's ideas about god when it is referred to as "he" for a few thousand years. When your faith in an archaic belief system validates your abuse of others, then it's time to realize that maybe these superstitions aren't necessary anymore. We can be good to each other without an intervening invisible authority.

I am no fan of religion, but tell a Jew he's a dipshit for believing as he does and he'll either come back with a smart remark or otherwise argue with you. I haven't had my coffee yet either and I apologize if I was unclear, which is totally possible. I think Jim P made some wild generalizations which were silly, at best. I was slamming the big religions equally. And "feminazi" is one of those Rush words that I'm not a fan of.

I agree that Muslims don't take criticism as well, which may be an understatement in light of recent events. Christianity and Judaism take a much more subtle approach. As far as I know, they aren't selling girls off into slavery, physically. Psychologically? I'm less sure.

I don't think Cleopatra worship is very popular today. If it was, I'd be interested to see how it played out. I'm not too worried about modern goddess religions, or Paganism. I'll take those any day over the current crop. I grew up in a home that was very involved with the Christian church. I didn't think twice about the things they said until I was in my teens. One of the things that really bothered me was referring to god as "he". It turned something that was, by definition, un-knowable into a human that made human decisions and had human emotions, and not always good ones. Anger, revenge, judgement, picking sides in football games. I just couldn't believe it and when I was old enough I never went back. But it did make me notice how the idea of a male god influenced people's behavior. Of course, they're not all maniacal. There are many that I love.
