Wow, What An Offer
I didn't "belong" in high school when I was in it; I'm sure not going to pay to belong now. But, nice try, Kimosabe, with this email:

same here.
Oh, and they seemed to have missed the invention of facebook that does this for free -- some one has set up a group for my class.

Classmates.com, Alumniclass.com -- I'll bet Facebook has probably taken most of the wind out of their sails. I remember signing up for Classmates years ago, but not to the point of giving them any money. And with Facebook, I've already found the people I'd wanted to reconnect with anyway. I haven't looked at Classmates in years.
Old RPM Daddy at June 22, 2011 3:55 AM
Yeah, they organized and invited everyone to my 10-year through Facebook.

I liked a Facebook group for my high school, mainly just to keep track of what the school is doing these days, out of curiosity. I have not attended and probably will never attend any class reunion, as those are years that I've spent my entire adult life trying to forget about, for a variety of reasons. It was mostly not the school's fault; I was just a poor fit there. However, there are a lot of classmates whom I have absolutely no desire to see or speak to ever again. And of the relatively small number that I would like to see again, most of them don't attend the reunions either.
I read with greatly mixed emotions a few months ago of the death of a classmate who bullied and taunted me. He went through high school with a don't-give-a-fuck attitude because he knew that no matter what he did, as soon as he graduated he would be made a vice-president of daddy's company. Which he was, and eventually he inherited the very successful company. So to die at the age of 49 of some sort of degenerative disease... well, one part of me says he deserved it. But another part feels sorry for the friends and family who must have loved him, and 49 is simply too young to die. Such are the mysteries of life.
Cousin Dave at June 22, 2011 8:38 AM
What a coincidence! Your classmates and mine must have a lot in common, what with the sudden surge of activity on a website nobody else uses.

Wow, Cousin Dave, it's a good thing we don't all get degenerative diseases and early death as a punishment for being an asshole in high school - there wouldn't be many people left on the planet.
Seriously, were you joking? You really believe that someone's conduct as a child should condemn them to misery and death?
Jackie D at June 22, 2011 11:38 AM
Small world. I dated a girl who went to Moon Valley in 1983. Used to pick her up in the park next door after school.
Speaking of these sites none of them are worth the money. It's not that high school was a bad experience it's that I've moved on.
I went to a cocktail party for my 10 year reunion. I spent 20 minutes there and decided if I wanted to know what my classmates were doing, I'd have maintained contact.
My 30 year is in Sept. I'm getting invites from people on Facebook and don't think it's worth the time to drive across town. I'm not willing to spend an hour in the car driving over to spend 20 minutes wondering why I went and then spend an hour driving home again.
Terry Gibbs at June 22, 2011 11:42 AM
Anyone who makes someone else's life miserable for no good reason other than that he can, probably should die a miserable death anyway, whether they die at 49 or 99. No one should have to live in misery because of someone unrelated to them; look at all the misery we put up with from people who are related to us!
o.O

Several years ago, I set up a junk mail account using the cat's name (a first and last name which no human being would have without child abuse charges being filed against the parents).
Whenever I request a catalogue, enter a contest, or request information from a vendor, I give them the cat's name and this e-mail address.
It significantly cuts down on the amount of junk mail clean-up I have to do with my real accounts.
According to an e-mail from classmates.com she got last week, 25 former high school classmates of the cat's are looking for her.
It's a scam.

See, this is why men learn to keep their emotions under wraps around women. If you'll actually go read what I read, I said I had mixed feelings about it. Yes, there was a bit of schadenfreude. I admit it. But basic human decency also says that nobody deserves to die like that, especially not at the young age of 49, and I thought I made that point. I guess I shouldn't have bothered. I'm gonna go get a beer. What time is the game on?
Cousin Dave at June 22, 2011 5:41 PM
For me, a high school reunion would be like a prison reunion. Why would I ever want to talk to any of them ever again?
Tyler at June 22, 2011 6:29 PM
There is one young women from high school that I wondered what happened to. This post just made me look her up. She's on her third husband.
That totally satisfies my curiosity about my class of '85. What happens to the rest of them, I know longer care.
I actually never really cared on my graduation day. I just wanted the damned piece of paper so I could leave it all behind.
Glory Days made sense to me back in '87.

Yeah, my main feeling was relief: "Thank God that's over. Now I can go live real life with real people."

Interesting, I'm Class of '82 as well. They did find me once, but I moved and told them the wrong state, so I haven't heard anything since....
