The Religion Of Easily Hurt Feelings
My business card used to read "Godless Harlot." I'm not exactly the shrinking violet of atheists. Religious people who comment hear regularly roll their eyes -- so loud you can pretty much hear it through the Internet -- when I post this and that criticizing Judaism, Christianity, and god-belief in general. What they don't do is say I should be killed.
That's the special stuff of Islam. Via Jihadwatch, whomever insults Mohammed, even if he later repents, must be killed. (Interestingly, you can get a pass on insulting Allah, but you're merely "called to repentence" if you do; you're not to be slaughtered.)
Here's the video:
Here's the translated transcript:
Whoever insults the Prophet (PBUH), if he later comes and apologizes, and kisses the shoes (of the ruler), and says, "I want all Muslims, every one, to return and strike me with the soles of their feet"--does the ruler have the right to accept this?I bring up this question, as it was asked of me. The answer is that it is not permissible for anyone to accept this. Then what do we do with him? We kill him! But he told you that he repented. We still kill him, even if he repents!
Kind of funny that he wears a hat like they wear at McDonald's when they're going to be scoopin' you some fries.

It makes me want to insult Mohammed. Not that I ever would, since I'm much too respectful of other people's faiths...even if Mohammed is just a fraudulent, sick, murdering, child molester.

I keep telling people that Islam isn't a religion but merely a meme, or mental virus: it appears to exist for no purpose other than propagate itself. (And make its leaders rich.)

Sort of like Orwell's 1984, where the State makes the unorthodox heretics repent of their crimes and grow to love Big Brother before it executes them.

Fuck Allah. OOps, sorry. Hey, it works!

Ummm, I have a question.
How do you insult something that does not exist?
Hey Skipper at July 19, 2011 12:25 PM
For the record, I think all religions take themselves tragically seriously until someone beats some sense into them. Christians have been duking it out for a long time.. Modern America is unusual in that there's essentially no difference between the lives of the Babtists/Methodists/Unitarians beyond the precise street address where they do their prayin'. The flock of each church knows that his counterparts in the nearby congregation will get as aggressive as necessary if a religious conflict happens. And everyone literally speaks the same language: If someone gets offended, it won't be a misunderstanding.
American religious tolerance is a remarkable thing.

Re: "How do you insult something that does not exist?"
He was referring to insults to the prophet.
This man's opinion is not necessarily representative of all Islam. I've read some books which elaborated on Shiist Islam in Iran, and there, Shiite clerics are a lot like university professors. The clerics there by-and-large gain respect through the judgments of their peers. For example, a very sizeable % of Iranian Shiite clerics disagree with the premise of Iran's current dispensation which gives ultimate authority on many matters to a supreme leader.
The cleric in that video is a nutbag. I've never been to an Islamic country, but my experience with American Muslims is that they are surprisingly like American Christians in many respects. Some of these Muslims remind me of the most observant Catholics I remember from my early years; they are somewhat similar to Opus Dei Catholics. On the other end of the spectrum, you have Muslims who are quite secularized to the point where they rarely attend religious services, and disregard instructions to avoid alcoholic beverages, for example. My guess is the % of American muslims who would endorse the views of that cleric are very small.
I think these extremist Muslims are a lot like Christians who, centuries ago, led inquisitions.

I think these extremist Muslims are a lot like Christians who, centuries ago, led inquisitions.
Per wikipedia: Current reports from various sources have estimated that 1.2 to 1.57 billion Muslims populate the world, or about 23% of an estimated 2009 world population of 6.8 billion...
Taking the low end of 1.2 billion * .1% equals 1,200,000 that believe this way. If 1% actually act that is 12,000 active terrorists. With 1.2M supporters behind them.
The inquisition still exists, technically, to this day. But when was the last time you heard of the Roman Catholic church sending out troops to bring someone in to be placed on the rack?
How about the last time you heard someone yelling "Allahu Akbar!" when they detonate their Dupont™ vest in recent times?
The count is significantly different. Why? The Christian Church has re-formed and let the light of knowledge at least guide them forward. When was the last great Muslim Reformation?

The Quran is to be taken literally and unquestioningly as the word of Allah. Mohammed's words and deeds and those of his close followers are to be emulated (as stated in the Hadith). There was reformation possible in Christianity. Islam has the above fail-safe built in.

That would be . . . never

All we want is you should get married and settle down. We just want you to be happy - and see it before we die. But don't feel guilty...

Islam has had it's reformation. The result is Wahabism and Jihadism. The problem with tolerant Muslims is that you cannot tell if they are really tolerant or if they just practicing deception to infidels as is taught in the Koran. Like that guy who tried to bomb Times Square, who said to the judge about his citizenship oath, "I lied."

BTW, I agree with Ben David, we want you to be happy. I don't think you have to go get a marriage document from the government, but you will be happier if you have a committed relationship acknowledged in public. After all, I don't think Abraham and Sarah had a marriage certificate.

I hope that you've heard of how the Norwegian terrorist's ideas regarding Islam have been influenced by American blogger's anti-Islam ideas put out of the web. Indeed his manifesto quoted Jihad Watch, a blog I noticed you've linked to. So the slaughter of innocents can be connected to anti-tolerant messages such as yours. I guess one could compare the anti-Islam message that inspires acts of terror to the same message Islamic terrorists receive. Any and all anti-human messages inspire certain individuals to act out their feelings. I wonder if he ever read this blog?

Islam COMMANDS Muslims to convert or kill the infidel, and the peaceful passages early in the Quran are abrogated by the violent ones later in the Quran. The Quran is to be taken literally, as the word of god.
Most people aren't going to become mass murderers, but if your road to heaven has a lot of road signs telling you you need to murder those who don't think as you do, well, there are far more likely to be killings.
What books have you read, Paula, that John Wayne Gacy has, and have you gone out and become a serial killer?
What ridiculous tripe.

Are you tolerant of such things, Paula?
If you believe in astrology or fairies or whatever silly, evidence-free free stuff, no problem -- unless your fairy religion commands the slaughter of others who are not like-minded.
I have a problem with this sort of thing, and speak out against it.
If you don't have a problem with it, and if you don't speak out against Islam and its barbaric practices -- practices that are COMMANDED of Muslims, and acted up on by far too many of them, what kind of sick person are you?
