Amy's Got A Brand New Head(er)
I'm hoping the new masthead is showing up for all of you. I think my browser had the old one cached, so I didn't know Gregg put up the new one on Wednesday afternoon (in between ducking gunfire in Detroit).
Gregg will soon make a couple other small changes -- putting the nav links above the masthead, for example, and sticking a Little Shiva masthead credit somewhere on the page. Otherwise, the blog will look and feel mostly the same.
This new masthead is by my very talented friend Little Shiva, last seen around these blog parts frightening the French -- security guards at Centre Georges Pompidou art museum in Paris. Here's her self-portrait:
She's very talented, very reliable, very smart and conceptual, and a lot of fun...should you be interested not just in hiring her but in going to Belgium to hang out with her, which I wish I could.
I actually tried to get my publisher to hire her to do my book cover, but they wouldn't buy my original idea (attack of the 50-foot Amy, pulling rude cell phoners out of Starbucks), because they worried that people would think I looked too "psycho ex-girlfriend." Sigh.
*If you can't see the new masthead, try clearing your cache.

Looks good!

New masthead looks great, noticed it a little while ago.
Also, you look pretty good in yellow, but the flyswatter lends itself to some varieties of mental imagery (probably even a fetish or two :) ).

Dig it. Much more you, I think. The old one was "Goddess" as in "we're all goddesses, we have Red Tent parties and make placenta art." This one is more "I'm a goddess and can hurt you if you piss me off, but I still look fabulous."
NumberSix at August 25, 2011 1:41 AM
Noticed the change as well.
It's a nice clean look.

The header looks really nice!
As for the full-length photo, you seem to have a slightly beckoning look on your face (possibly from the light or angle of the shot or something), which, coupled with the accessories...
"Hey, Handsome...yes, you Darling, c'mere..."
.
.
.
*WHACK!*
By the way, is that somebody running a marathon in the background?
Old RPM Daddy at August 25, 2011 4:16 AM
That halo behind your head is positively Obamesque...

I LOVE the masthead, it's fabulous, and the new photo? It looks smashing! (pun intended)

Looks great!! And I love the picture of you! Gorgeous dress!!

Stupid cache...oh, there, that's better. Nice.
Gold dress, long, black gloves, and a fly swatter. All hail!

I like it! So much fun! I'm glad Lucy is still there.
sofar at August 25, 2011 8:33 AM
Noticed that yesterday! Love it.

The new masthead is terrific! And as for LittleShiva, anyone who frightens the French is OK in my book.
The picture of the yellow dress is great, and the only thing I can say about the flyswatter is "Thank you Ma'am....may I have another?"
alittlesense at August 25, 2011 9:36 AM
The colors really pop. I love the new masthead.
Elle at August 25, 2011 10:06 AM
FYI, One little technical nit-pick: the header no longer links to your "home" page.
Ken at August 25, 2011 10:17 AM
The flyswatter pic (which I love) had me looking for old issues of WHAP! magazine online, but they seem to have vanished. It was this fun retro-styled femdom zine out of San Francisco.

And thank you, everybody!
And P.S. I just finished the Internet rudeness chapter of my next book about 20 minutes ago.

Dear LS: He meant that as flattery. Love, Amy's flock

I love it but it's a banner, not a masthead.

masthead |ˈmastˌhed|
noun
1 the highest part of a ship's mast or of the lower section of a mast.
2 the title of a newspaper or magazine at the head of the front or editorial page.

I gotta say, you're really hot with a flyswatter! (And I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've ever said that to a woman...)

Poised, elegant, yet ready for action against rudeness. Just right!

Great new look, much brighter and inviting.
Dear lady, gold is not your best color.
May I suggest a dress to match the gloves.
The pose and especially the fly swatter is great.

Like the new masthead. Probably too big a job at present, but a long run plan I'd recommend as a web publisher: migrate to Wordpress. It's got a much stronger developer community, and a lot of great plugins and compatible services; if growing your blog and web presence is part of your overall strategy, it's probably worth the pain in the short run (link kicked to spam, comment still applies).

I haven't logged on in a couple of days so imagine my surprise when I saw the new look this morning. It looks great Amy! I love the new photo too!

Thanks, Christopher, but I'm not going to ditch links all over the Internet since 2003 to my blog items.
This would be one of the pain points in the migration. You'd need to set up 301 redirects from the original URLs to the new ones to avoid losing the link juice and traffic.
Christopher at August 26, 2011 7:53 AM
It looks amazing!
Feebie at August 26, 2011 10:19 AM
The header never did [click to "home"], but we'll try to remember to get it to do that.
It is a good and standard practice. While I am about the business of suggesting, it also would be a good idea to add the "open a new page" directive on all of the links in here (target='_blank'). Best reason: you keep your hard-won traffic. I enjoy the blog very much, and find it annoying when I have to do a "Oh, yeah" and navigate back to here when I follow a posted link. It should be a setting in your blog software, and a decent html editor should to correct prior pages with a global find/replace.
Ken at August 26, 2011 11:38 AM
And a new comment module! And a new comment module!
Amy, I'll buy it for you.
