I'm reading the reviews on the Fire. They don't sound too bad. But I already have to carry a laptop for work anyway. I'll just use that for digital media.

I have the 3rd generation Kindle with keyboard. I love it so far. I also sometimes read on my iPad or iPhone, but unless you're somewhere where it's low light (i.e. a bar) it gets hard on the eyes.
Still, I recommend a Kindle to everyone. And, if you can help out Amy in the process, all the better. :D
