It's called the "Cute Response" and it's hard wired--it's what keeps people from killing their babies most of the time.
Hallmarks of cute are large head compared to body, big eyes and tiny little chin...in other words, Babies!
Sadly, it's also why, at the age of 40, I'm still called kiddo. At least most people don't try to kill me.
@Amy--The Cute Response falls into the EvPsych category, I do believe. Might be another factor for you to look into as to male/female relationships. I know I've had men my age be reluctant to date me because I look too young and innocent (insert eye roll here.) It's typically younger men who ask me out. And I've noticed that trophy wives/younger wives tend to be rather, uh, brittle and high maintenance looking, a la Courtney Stodden. So are they not provoking the cute response? Clearly some young women are desired but others are taboo. Why, o EvPsych Goddess? Why?
