So 1992
This man put this down on his table at a cafe and I had to say something, and then say hello, and then ask to take a picture.
Interestingly, his cellphone was also old ("from the 1800s," he joked, but it was more like 2001), and he said he liked having these old things because they seem to fit with his life. He told me he earns a living from old things...collecting on old unpaid doctor bills...like 18 years old. It's all just too perfect.

Ontopic joke, offtopic joke.

18 years is way past the statute of limitations.

I was going through some really interesting stuff on how the mind is made up of modules in Why Everyone (Else) Is a Hypocrite, so I didn't really probe him too much for information.

I took one look at the photograph and said "Now, where did my dad leave his 'life' this time and how did Amy find it?" Stepmother got him an iPad, but he still carries around a real datebook stuffed with crap just like that, and he's forgotten it on a coffee shop table more times than I can remember. He'll be glad to know he's not totally alone.

The guy just shrugged his shoulders when I mentioned that it's not exactly backed up to "The Cloud." "What if you leave it in a taxi? I did that with my Filofax in New York. The cab driver returned it, but if he hadn't, I would have been sunk."

Tweet of the week.
Crid [CridComment at gmail] at January 20, 2012 12:19 PM
"Tweet of the Week"? I guess Crid is curtailing his addiction.
Thank Gregg for putting in the new anti-spam software. Now His Royal Tediousness can put six tweets in one post, instead of making six consecutive posts, one tweet each. Still going from six a day to one a week seems like such a drastic cutback. Perhaps he has a solid support base.

I still carry a small organizer. I use it mainly to take notes and keep phone numbers. Don't feel much like getting a smart phone because (1) it's expensive; (2) most of the networks have no coverage at my house; (3) cell phones don't work in the building I work in, (4) the damn screens are too small, and (5) I hate not having a real keyboard.

Yes.

Exactly.
> (5) I hate not having a real keyboard.
Completely agree.
> (5) I hate not having a real keyboard.
Good point, well taken.

I still carry a Franklin Planner.
Because so much of my day is spent responding to incidents instead of proactive planning I don't quite use it the way it should be. (I work on a SW support desk) but it is still helpful for notes and my reference material.

Maybe he's in a twelve-tweet program.
====================
I'm kind of a pen and office supply nut. I have several different pads and notebooks and have a drawer full of various types of pens and pencils. At any given time, I'm using two or three different note-taking and information filing systems.
Nonetheless, I like the smart phone. It allows me to carry lots of information in a small package, take notes on the go, get directions, read books, take pictures, and even play Scrabble on the subway.
I hated trying to organize written phone books and never had enough space to record all the phone numbers and addresses I had for people. With a smart phone, I do.
