Man Arrested, Charged With Attempted Murder, Jailed For 50 Days...For Videotaping A Scuffle
People sniff when I say America is becoming a police state. But, we see crazy case after crazy case like this one -- the owner of WTF Magazine arrested, charged, jailed...simply for documenting a fight that had nothing to do with him. Here, from LiveLeak, is the video:
Details here.
People make an assumption, that because you have certain rights under the law, that those rights will be respected by the police.
Often, it's arrest first -- and you get to work it all out afterward. Paying fines, court costs, legal fees, and trying to stay alive in jail.

That is simply ridiculous. I think he has a case for false arrest and false imprisonment.

In the video he mentions overzealous and overreaching police. This kind of stuff isn't overzealousness and overreaching. It's corruption. It's immoral, dishonest, unethical police and court officials using their position to harm someone. It's why in politics and government character matters.

It's hard to imagine seeing his videotape and anyone charging him with anything, or him spending a minute in jail.

My view of this, she should be charged with assault. She clearly was the agressor, but when the polices show up it's all I was the innocent victim.
As to the camera guys, not just innocent they should be thanked for bringing forward evidence. But in our corrupt and backward world nope they get punished for having a camera.

false arrest and false imprisonment
If you read farther, you discover that he thought so too. The problem is: this would have to be handled by the very same jurisdiction that arrested him.
Somehow, strangely, they are not interested in now prosecuting themselves.
There needs to be a separate organization for handling things like this. Perhaps an independent citizens' review board with the power to punish misconduct by police/prosecutors/courts.
This remind me of a story I came across yesterday: A guy is at home when the police come to his backdoor. The guy's dogs are apparently making a fuss, the policeman has a weapon out. The guy establishes that the policeman has no warrant to be on his property (and what the devil is he doing at the *back* door, coming through the yard where the dogs are?).
So, they guy tells the policeman to leave, to get off of his property. Instead, the policeman tries to shoot the dogs, so the guy shoots and kills the policeman.
How do you suppose this came out? With the guy charged and convicted of murder, and now sitting on death row. Granted, it sounds like his defense lawyer was an idiot, trying to get his client declared insane rather than portraying him as defending his home and property from an armed intruder.
