Advice Goddess Radio: 7-8pm PT, 10-11pm ET -- Dr. Geoffrey Miller
Advice Goddess Radio -- "Nerd Your Way To A Better Life!" with the best brains in therapy and research.
My guest tonight on Advice Goddess Radio will be evolutionary psychologist Dr. Geoffrey Miller. You've read about his work -- his strippers study -- in my column:
In a study by psychologist Geoffrey Miller, female lap dancers not on the pill earned an average of $276 a night whereas those on it brought in only $193, making pill-using lap dancers $80 less hot and sexy to men per night.
We'll be discussing how and why we sell ourselves to others through what we buy, and debating whether we can do that without spending so much money -- the subject of Miller's book Spent: Sex, Evolution, and Consumer Behavior.

And don't miss last week's fascinating (and even uplifting) show with psychologist and grief expert Dr. George A. Bonanno, who smashed all the widely held myths about grieving and bereavement.
His book is The Other Side of Sadness: What the New Science of Bereavement Tells Us About Life After Loss.

___________
A while back I read a about a study on women's sex drives on and off the pill. It asserted women had a higher desire for sex off the pill, and the men they desire were different. On the pill, they were less charged, and tended to be more into the more dependable (re: "nice guy") traits. Off the pill, they tended to be into the more unpredictable and exiting (re: "asshole") traits.
The presentation was in the context of female infidelity, and how a woman on the pill would pick and marry one man, and after marriage get off the pill to try to conceive and get a "triple whammy" of increased sex drive, a change in the type of man who got her motors running, all while a certain amount of routine and boredom are starting to set in with regards to the marriage.
Not sure the study or its application was accurate, although i tend to suspect so. Relevant point being its assertion that women off the pill have a hormone condition more conducive to sexual activity than those on the pill, which may very well explain why they tend to earn more in such positions since that attitude is probably reflected in their interaction with prospective clients.

I'm going to listen to the podcast, and I'm very interested. So don't think I'm being at all critical when I say I wish I could get a job studying female lap dancers!

And thanks. Hope you like it. I found him very interesting.
And he's next studying waitresses to see if there are similar effects.
