TSA: Why Get Your Balls Groped When You Can Just Row Up With A Warhead?
The 58,401 Stooges (aka TSA employees) are so busy pretending to administer security that they fail to actually do it. In New York, a jet-skier, stranded in Jamaica Bay, swam to shore and easily breached all the supposed security they have between the Bay and the terminal. From NBC New York:
Daniel Castillo of Queens swam to shore and then walked past motion sensors and closed-circuit cameras of the airport's state-of--the art Perimeter Intrusion Detection System. The $100 million system is meant to safeguard against terrorists.
Castillo climbed an eight-foot-tall perimeter fence and made his way to Terminal 3, according to The New York Post. He approached a Delta Airlines worker, who alerted authorities, the paper said.

Physical security isn't TSA's problem, that responsibility belongs to the airport.
How BIG is that elephant in the room?
This is the reason that your ramp workers don't go through detectors or a vetting process, they are the airport responsibility, and the airport isn't as worried about stuff as the TSA.
This is why it's known as security theatre. the whole town is made outta cardboard.

What's a guy have to do, dress up as Bin Laden and set a plane on fire to get noticed?

Many airports have another side that is used by civilian pilots or charter flights. It's also the long term maintenance or heavy repair on the commercial birds. Usually that side is protected by a rent-a-cop making barely above minimum wage.
That a multimillion dollar system failed means the government was ripped off, again, as usual.

hmmm, seems things have changed then, DIA didn't use to be that way... but then they wouldn't really tell anyone.

"If it's not the TSA's problem, why are there "Redacted Airport Perimeter Security Reports for FY06" posted on their site?"
I suspect it's one of those "it is until it isn't, and we decide when it isn't" deals.
BTW, this guy got cheated out of his chance for a Darwin Award. Not only did he not get shot, but he walked across a freakin' active runway at JFK, and nothing happened to him.
Cousin Dave at August 13, 2012 11:51 AM
If he has any children, he would have been disqualified for a Darwin Award.
But I love that a guy wearing a bright yellow life preserver defeated a $100M security system. And I'll gladly put money toward his defense in the criminal trespass case. I'd love to see them get to the level of criminal in this case.

I like the way the word the article to make it seem like he was intentional avoiding cameras and motion detectors and that the airline employee noticed him before he started yelling and waving his arms to get the employees attention.
And I dont think the guy got cheated out of a Darwin Award, it aint that hard to notice and avoid airplanes

Why do you just know the reaction of the Bloomberg administration is going to be to ban Jet Skis?

Eh, thats hardly a challenge for them. Mens rea doesn't mean anything to the courts anymore. He trespassed where he wasn't supposed to be. They'll toss a moderate sized law book list of charges at him to scare him into a plea bargain. Then go on to ignore the security problems.

And salt water.

Don't even begin to believe that he was arrested for tresspassing. The real reason he was arrested was that he made the security people look like idiots.
Jay at August 13, 2012 7:35 PM
Oh, I don't. Why do you think I'm willing to contribute to his defense.
Just like I threw $25 towards Diane Tran
