Sometimes I wish the US was like South Korea. One term, that's it! You get 5 years, then you are out the door. Why in the US do you get a leader that either gives and tries to make everybody happy OR tries to keep under the radar. So many times the first 4 years ends up so big and loud shopping spree or such a waste of time that nothing is actually solved.

So many throw-away lines in that link:
"a majority agree with me" -- You copped an election, but it wasn't a majority of Americans, and in a country full of obamaphone-ites, I don't see a lot of evidence we are electing the best people for your job.
"this will create jobs and growth" -- so push the accelerator pedal down even farther. But do we have an engine that can go any faster? Maybe we need politicians that can adapt to a world where we don't get more than 1% growth. Maybe you should resign and let someone more capable run the show.

You can go through high school or college in four years. If that isn't enough time to teach you what you are going to get from a politician, you are a slow learner.
Everything they say about their opposition is a calculating lie. What they have done is the only thing you can believe.
MarkD at November 11, 2012 4:18 AM
Well Obama authorized renewed talks on the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty on November 7.
He also wants to see about an assault weapons ban. Of course the first ban worked so well.
But crime is not committed by the gun. The person carrying the gun has made the choice. And most criminals aren't walking around with an "assault weapon". They are probably going to use a pistol that was acquired illegally.

Yea, let's appoint a "jobs czar" - that will do the trick!
Idiots, f*cking blooming idiots.

Yep, Jim P., that is happening all over.
Just wait a while and pretty soon the government will make it illegal to lay people off!
Sort of like all the restrictions on small landlords when they try to evict non-paying tenants.
Charles at November 11, 2012 1:06 PM
Where is that on the list of priorities again?
Jim P. at November 11, 2012 2:09 PM
Hey Jim P - maybe we could ask "one of our strongest and closest allies," one of them might know; but, which one do we ask?

I know, we can ask the small country that "punches above its weight."

ho hum fi fie fo fum....another boring speech which has no action plan.
I really like the below line:-
"And that’s the only way we can afford to invest in education and job training and manufacturing — all the ingredients of a strong middle class and a strong economy"
The problem from my assessment of the USA is not that Americans need education and job training and manufacturing jobs. It is just that people don't want all these jobs simply because they find them unglamorous. A fast food worker who is a wannabe actor/actress/fashion designer/pop star/runway model/baseball star would rather try all the above jobs while working at fast food or delivering pizza instead of taking a career in manufacturing or medicine even if it pays a lot more, because as far as they are concerned, a manufacturing or a job as a doctor is not a glamorous one.
The main reason for outsourcing is because of people looking for glamorous jobs rather than looking for good paying jobs which involve keeping the nose to the ground and working their way up and until this changes, it is quite unlikely for the jobs situation to improve simply because people would rather automate and outsource more and more in such a scenario. Throwing money at education and creating manufacturing plants will simply result in foreigners coming and doing those jobs even at pretty high levels of pay and americans would simply remain unemployed since welfare anyway takes care of their needs while they keep trying to chase the elusive stardom in hollywood.
Redrajesh at November 12, 2012 12:29 AM
Seriously, people. You haven't figured out yet that this guy is and has been lying through his teeth for the past for years, and will continue to do so? In so MANY ways?
Redrajesh, you watch too much TV. I know plenty of young people who absolutely abhor the idiots on "Jersey Shore" and the like. They are in school and are taking classes in biology, psychiatry, nursing, business administration and myriad other courses in order to educate themselves and secure their futures. The vast majority are not even interested in "chasing the elusive stardom in hollywood", because they know full well it's not worth it.

FoUr. Ack.
Flynne at November 12, 2012 5:44 AM
In so MANY ways?
Flynne,
What the truth is kinda stopped mattering about. Read Pat Caddell, a former Jimmy Carter pollster, after Benghazi:
"Yesterday there was not a single piece in the New York Times over the question of Libya. Twenty American embassies yesterday are under attack. None of that is on the national news! It is one thing to bias the news or have a biased view. It is another thing to specifically decide that you will not tell the American people information they have a right to know."
Stinky the Clown at November 12, 2012 7:51 AM
"biology, psychiatry, nursing, business administration"
None of these cover manufacturing. Just reinforces what I said. If a manufacturing plant is set up, none of these courses is going to help provide the people for it. Besides, how many psychiatrists and nurses do you need? Most jobs involve not college education, but a dedication to learn on the job and slog it out initially during the learning period which then results in the person sharpening his/her skills. How many people who do not have a college education are ready to do that in america?
Redrajesh at November 12, 2012 8:01 AM
Redrajesh, some biology course lead to drug research, which leads to manufacturing of new drugs. And yes, I failed to mention all the kids in the vocational tech schools around here, who are learning trades and how to build and repair cars, motorcycles, etc.; and those kids who are taking drafting courses, learning how to read and write specs for manufacturing. There are plenty of people out here (myself included) who worked in menial factory jobs back in the day, who would gladly do it again, as long as the pay is good. What needs to happen is for people to be paid a living wage, that is, a salary that you can actually LIVE on, without going into debt, without having to scrabble from week to week, living hand-to-mouth, and paycheck to paycheck. People just want to be able to earn enough to keep their heads above water. Some CEOs get that, and pay accordingly. Most don't, and therein lies one of many problems.
Flynne at November 12, 2012 8:08 AM
Yeah, I hear ya, Stinky. I've been told other countries cover the USA's news better than the mainstream media here, and I believe it.

"Twenty American embassies yesterday are under attack. None of that is on the national news!"
And yet Pat somehow managed to find out about it.

"None of these cover manufacturing . . ."
Manufacturing left the US decades ago when lower wages overseas made it more economical for companies to move their operations there. Such jobs are not coming back.
Democrats are now calling for them to come back because they miss those union workers who always blindly vote for them.
Let's not forget Obama just barely won - just barely. Another 4 years of his crap and they might not win again without those blind voters - that's why so many are calling for more trade skills training.
