They were never a favorite band. I was (apparently) about twenty minutes too old to appreciate them when they hit their sweet spot.
And it was never a favorite tune. Lee's voice is the kind that's very easy to hate (hear also: Plant). The lyrics are much too teen-cheesy for someone who's been to college.
And let's be clear, this particular artifact has (apparently) come to us through the marketing of a video game.
[B]egins in 4/4 before switching to 7/8 and 13/16 in the instrumental section. When the instrumental section ends, it returns to 4/4 before changing again to 7/8 for the outro.
Y'know, I think of all the people in the following generation who've listened to shitty songs made on bad software with autotune, and how people hire DJ's for weddings and them watch them jerk off with turntables as if there were some sort of composition happening, and I'm sincerely saddened.
The idea that a person with some innate skill might struggle for years under instruction from ancient sources to refine a talent — and then use their gift to produce something both transgressive and polished — has no place in pop culture now.
People want to be loved just for being born as talented as Whitney Houston.
And look how that turned out.

I was never a huge Rush fan either, but I went to one of their concerts at The Pacific Ampitheater. It may have been the best concert ever. Just three guys on stage...
No opening act, but a complete blackout about 5 minutes before the show began. They opened with Tom Sawyer, and about a 40 foot tall inflatable rabbit in a hat on stage. It sounds kind of stupid if you weren't there, but it was incredible. They played for about three or four hours, and almost every song I recognized and enjoyed, but had never bought a Rush lp before.
Same with Alice Cooper- never bought an album, one of the best concerts ever at The Greek Theater.
Is this coarse enough?

All these things are clues. But still...
This is charming.

People on the internet say part of Sawyer came from this.
