How To Get People To Quit Smoking (Cigarettes Bought In NY State, That Is)
Jazz Shaw blogs at Hot Air about what happens when you enact a sin tax -- with 60.9% of all cigarettes in NY going untaxed by that state.
Apparently, many New York residents buy their smokes in New Hampshire, a state that, in 2011, cut its tax rate on a pack of smokes by 10 cents to $1.68.
The idiots in Los Angeles who voted in a half-cent sales tax increase essentially voted that the building trades would shift their business from Los Angeles to Pasadena. The measure to force porn actors to wear condoms is being fought in court, so the porn business has yet to pick up and move to Vegas.

Just in case there's a legislator or regulator lurking here:
Hey, idiot! People will pay taxes if they think they are getting something for their contribution.
But they will leave your sorry ass wondering what the hell happened when you blow doing your JOB: producing real value for the tax dollar.

I don't smoke, so I don't buy cigarettes; but, can't you also buy smokes tax-free (or at least cheaper)on Indian Reservations?
I do believe that upstate NY has a couple. Gotta wonder how much each tax increase benefits the reservation's business.

Does anyone remember the SCHIP taxes?
It's all for the children so we're going to tax the shit out of behavior we don't approve of.
They can all go fuck themselves, with big rusty pipes.
But that is just my humble opinion. ;-)

Just found this interesting article about how the tax disproportionately affect poor smokers (who don't seem to be quitting despite paying up to 23.6% of their income on cigarettes). http://dailycaller.com/2012/09/22/state-funded-study-cigarette-tax-hurts-new-yorks-poor-most/
Sadly, the article also stated that (despite the cigarette tax going up), New York has but tobacco control programs in half.
