Once again we're reminded that canned laughter is the basis for Stewart's wealth and political righteousness: The guy flubs a peepee joke, choking to an inaudible mumble, but still gets an enormous response from a seemingly tumescent studio audience. Isn't that remarkable? And it happens night after night, year after year.
In the sixties, we were annoyed when Gilligan used that shit.
This is worse.

Just finished watching a NOVA Special on PBS called The Mind of a Rampage Killer.
These people have the audacity to put together an hour long program about violent youths, neuroscience, nurturing mothers and brain scans without pointing out once, not once the obvious correlation between these crimes involving teenagers and single motherhood.
Even going so far as to interview some kids in the juvenile penal system and some mother (whose male counterpart was mysteriously absent) with a troubled son without ever asking: "where is the Father?". Seriously. I watched that cluck wallow about hidding knives from her son, and fretting about what antipsychotic drug would be the best to dope her son up with....how she identified with Adam Lanzas mother about having an unpredictable teenage boy. And no one bothers to ask her, "where's the fucking father". But don't worry, this selfless woman is raising awareness about children with mental illnesses.

(And props to Feeb.)
(No one's saying that fatherhood turns every life into bliss, OK? That is obviously not true.)
(But it's at least possible that the producers of that show never had a conscious thought to suppress that question. I can well imagine that the matter never occurred to them. I've heard too many fatherless children describe their male progenitors as just "not around," as if their mother's integrity failures had been baked right into their souls. And as goes America, so goes civilization. The countries joining first-world patterns of feminism and opportunity are not correcting our errors, but adopting them as their own.)

There needs to be a word for matters that are essential, but which people have been trained to not think about. Seems to me like Orwell had a word for this, but it's not coming to mind. Maybe I've been trained not to think about it...

Wherein the lefty fear of financial responsibility achieves a breathtaking new desperation.
These people will say anything if it means they don't have to pay their bills.
