Advice Goddess Radio -- "Nerd Your Way To A Better Life!" with the best brains in science.
*Show is an hour earlier this week -- 6-7pm Pacific Time, to accommodate my guest's schedule.
Very exciting show this week with Loren Cordain, Ph.D., a leading expert on the Paleolithic diet and a professor in the Department of Health & Exercise Science at Colorado State University.
Dr. Cordain will bust numerous myths about how to eat for optimal workouts and lay out what the science says about how to eat before, during, and after a workout and why.
This show will have essential information for intense athletes, the focus of Cordain's book featured below, and for people who work out regularly and want improve their performance and health.
Dr. Cordain's book, co-authored with endurance coach Joe Friel, MS, is The Paleo Diet for Athletes: The Ancient Nutritional Formula for Peak Athletic Performance.

Yuen is the co-creator of the first procrastination treatment group in the country, along with the co-author of her excellent, research-driven book, Procrastination.
There's much wisdom in this book -- just in prepping for the show, I've recognized some of my bad habits, and I've started taking small steps to change them. You can do the same (with your own bad habits!). You're sure to get some very wise insight and tips for real and very positive change from the show.

Hi Amy:
I'm really looking forward to this one tonight. I transitioned to a paleo diet a few years ago and it has easily kept off the weight that I lost on Eade's Protein Power a decade ago.
If you get the time to ask, I'd love to know the optimal level of protein intake Dr. Cordain recommends for those of us on a muscle hypertrophy geared strength program.
Also, you should e-mail Instapundit and have Glenn post a link. There are a ton of people who could benefit from listening to Cordain. Thanks.

Thanks so much -- I did email Glenn...I'm hoping he posts it! He's been wonderful about posting links to my shows but I think of these posts of his as a gift...I don't expect them!
I'm putting your question in my notes and will do my best to get to it.

Amy,
Please keep posting the low carb advice. I know you take flak for it, but it is truly the way to go. I'll tell anyone anytime I get the chance about paleo/primal eating, even though some look at me like I'm an evangelizing food hippie.
Thanks again.

I never knew that dairy was on the bottom of the totem pole for worth. But for some reason, I don't think I can give coffee with sugar and cream.
Very informative show.

I think I lucked out genetically (compared to people who gain weight if they so much as look at a cracker), so for me, eating dairy doesn't seem to be a problem.
Also, my ancestry is Northern and Eastern European, so I don't have a problem digesting milk. And I don't eat grains or sugar, so...I think I have some leeway where others may not.

Speaking of performance athletes, I'm nearly finished reading "The Secret Race" by Tyler Hamilton and Daniel Coyle. It's "Inside the hidden world of the Tour de France: Doping, Coverups and winning at all costs."
This is scary stuff, these pros care little for dietary programs. They get their endurance and go-fast with blood transfusions, hormones and even synthetic blood. Nobody succeeds without this sort of thing.

Looking forward to listening to this tomorrow. The one about procrastination last week was really great -- I missed it the first time around, so I think it was a great choice as a "greatest hit." I'm already making some changes you talked about. I love these shows!

Enjoyed the show. I generally avoid podcasts, but I always try to make time for yours since they are interesting and contain practical knowledge.
I'd love to hear you interview Mark Sisson from Mark's Daily Apple, his take on "chronic cardio" should be heard by everyone.
BTW - I, like you, tolerate cheese very well, and I do not plan on giving it up. In fact, killing a man for taking your wife, your dog, or your cheese isn't even an in indictable offense in Tennessee.
